Stripped my rear hub down and it seems -
- Drive side hub bearing was worn
- the two inner bearings on the XD freehub were completely shot. The innermost one pulled apart as I pulled the freehub off the axle, the one in the middle of the freehub was just a mess of shattered inner race and metal filings.

All the bearings that were intact have knocked out easily enough but can't work out how to remove the two knackered ones. They appear to have a spacer tightly between them that is smaller ID than the outer races of the bearings. The Hope video suggests should be loose and there should be enough of a ledge to get something on to knock them out but mine doesn't seem to have that. Also sounds like one knocks out inward and one outward so can't just bash the lot through.

Any advice?

You should be able to push the spacer / sleeve to the side (radially) to get to the edge of the bearings. It may be sandwiched between the two bearings but should be able to use something like a hex key to move it aside.

seems not to move - based on the rest of the inside of the freehub I'd not be surprised if there were various bits of bearing now wedged in the gap behind it.

I normally use a blind puller in the bearing groove of the outer race when then they separate.

I don't have a blind puller - any recommendations for a cost effective tool for bike use?

As above, you should be able to move the very end of the spacer tube to the side enough to allow purchase of a long punch to the bearing outer edge. It'll be a tight fit but it only needs to be a mm or so.

Might be easier to try it on the end that is closest to the hub

heat it in boiling water - the bearings will come out much easier

Don't have a blind puller? Essential kit.

Boiling water made no difference
Have already watched the video. no sideways movement in the tube at all.

will buy a blind puller and try that next.

Just to add to the annoyance, the XD driver freehub has 3x S6803 bearings so I need to source one more.
