Hey,
anyone know where I can get one of these for a good price?
The one in currently is a gold colour. Not sure what the difference is between the various types.
Thanks
Rob
I thiiinkkkkk gold is 9/10 speed - and the grey is the newer 11 speed?
Might be horrifically wrong though.
There is also a silver-ish colour which is on much older Pro 2 (non evo)
Gold is alloy. Silver is steel. There is also a SRAM XD version.
You can normally pick one up for around £30 ish second hand. Whats wrong with you current one?
and the grey is the newer 11 speed?
11spd fits on all versions (I've 11spd XT running on an original Pro 2).
I have worked out that there is a horrible creaking noise coming from the hub as I have eliminated everything else (two bikes and lots of fettling).
I can see from a vid there are a few bearings to replace so thought it might be easier to just swap out the freehub as it's something I can do and don't have to pay a lbs. I don't have the time or equipment to take the thing apart.
Cheers
Pro 2 Evo hub bearings generally go before freehub bearings do IME.
Bearings cost only a couple of quid, new freehub is a bit drastic!
Also worth checking that your freehub body is not cracked. Hope will probably replace it FOC if it is. (I've broken every Pro 2 alloy freehub that I've had. Hope replaced all with steel ones)
The set of bearings AND the Hope drift kit that makes things easier would still be less than the cost of a new hub.
Thanks for the post. Do I need any special tools to get them out? Gather it's the bearing that sits underneath the freehub and the one the other side?
BTW, where can I get replacement bearings?
Thanks
Rob
LBS, Just riding along and CRC sell official bearings (amongst others). Cheap bearings can be got from eBay. Personally I wouldn't bother with cheap ones.
You can get the old ones out with a hammer and a long bit or rod. However once you have pulled the freehub off it should be easy enough to determine if one of the bearings are shot. The free hub ones you will be able to stick your finger in. The main ones will still have the axle in, turn this and you should feel any notches.
You will need either the Hope bearing supports or a suitable sized socket to reinsert the bearings without damaging them.
thanks for the message. If you could point me the right direction for the bearings and tools on CRC or somewhere like that, it would be much appreciated 🙂
what nixie said
I've always punched the bearings out with a big screwdriver and seated the new ones with a socket (and using the old bearing sat on top of the new one to protect it)
