Yes, got Pro 5's - so far so good, not very 'Hope' sounding though 🙁

I’m out if it’s quieter than the pro4. Was hoping it would sound nearer an i9 hydra

Sounds like a Chris King. Wouldn't call it quiet.

Two quick videos comparing the sounds.

Pro5 is definitely a different tone, I'd say it's slightly quieter.

Sound aside, They have held up fine so far

UP TO 6 pawls. So a standard hub will have less than 6(as far as im aware). maybe 3.

They have info printed on them. saying 108poe on the hub body, but for example on my freehub it says 54 poe. So it depends on which freehub.

I just spun a new pro4 and a new pro5 and the sound off the pro4 is slightly louder but also sharper

They are 6 pawl, but offset, engaging 3 at a time, giving 108 point of engagement on a 54 tooth ring. On the E-bike version all 6 engage together.

6 pawls, 54t ring in the hub. On the ebike freehub all pawls engage together for 54poe. Normal version engages as 2 separate sets of 3 pawls giving an effective 108poe.

edit- too slow!

Anyone tried running a normal hub on three pawls only yet? 54t is probably enough for me and I’d be interested to know what it does to the drag

surely it’s the other way round isn’t it? If three engage then it’s 54poe if 6 engage then it’s 108poe?

The pawls aren't offset on the ebike one. It's a different freehub. All 6 at the same time.

Ah - I see how it works now. 3 pawls offset so effective 108 as you say. Got it. 👍

Ocean skipper.

If all 6 engage at the same time it's 54PoE
3 engaging at a time are in two groups. Group A engage then group B do giving 108PoE but with 3 at a time.

Hope had a video on their website that demonstrates this but I can't find it on my phone

I have a few wheels sets and the pro 5 ranks in between i9 and Pro 4 with regards to noise.

Certainly not quiet but nowhere near the alarmingly loud buzz of the i9 hub.

At first I loved the i9 noise, then it quickly got intense, so I greased mine a little and it is now about the same volume level of Hope but still keeps the buzz.

Performance wise, I have never had a Hope or i9 hub fail in any way, including older Pro 2 hubs.

All conversations about Hope hubs are about the noise they make. No mention of build quality or reliability.

I thought build quality and reliability were a given with Hope hubs, that has been my experience

Fully appreciate there are plenty of other equivalent priced quality options, just not all available in bling colours, made in the UK and a particularly appealing/unappealing hub noise depending on your stance

I sold a couple of old Hope hubs on eBay last year, including a 90s front Suspension hub. It felt incredibly smooth, despite the age and lack of servicing.

I've just put Pro5s on my gravel bike but haven't had a chance to ride it yet. Maybe this evening.

I've ridden mine about 5 times and haven't broken them yet.

I’ve had a Pro 2 Hubshell crack from flange to flange and a Pro 3 axle shear at the QR dropout under load, so they do fail.

Aside from a broken chain and failed Fox rear shock, these are the only things I’ve had structurally fail in 18y of MTBing.

I’d still rate Hope as the backup in both circumstances was superb.

I think the noise of the 5 is nicer, but I like the King buzz. The I9 noise is a bit too much for me.

I’m probably going to end up with the Roval C38s (same as I have already as they came on the bike) with DT Swiss 350s on as it’s a second set of wheels and I cba with the rotors being slightly out of alignment between the wheel sets I know I can probably put spacers in like I did on the MTB but still. Bearings etc will all be the same size too for ease of maintenance.

unless someone tells me a really good reason why it’s  a bad idea to get some more Roval C38s….🤷‍♂️

Tommy c hype had a recent video with a severe Hope pro4 rear hubshell failure on his mates bike if I'm not mistaken, totally cracked.
