Hi.
I have some Hope Pro 3 hubbed wheels on my road bike. There is a small amount of play in the hubs when I put the wheels on the bike and nip up the QRs.
They bearings seem fine - running smooth and no play when not on the bike... Just when the QR is tightened. Anyone else experienced this? Are new bearings the answer?
Tia...
Can you feel it when you're riding?.....if not then it's not an issue.
From my experience it's not always possible to feel play in the hub when the wheel is off, when in the bike and clamped in place you get far more leverage which is why you feel play.
Simple enough to change so I'd swap them out and I'm sure you'll be sorted.
yeh, I had this then it went away
Seems to be an issue with a batch if not all of them recently. I had a new pair of wheels with these hubs built in March and both were loose straight out the box. New bearings sorted out the rear, but not the front. Sent the front back to hope and they replaced the hub. My understanding is that the hubshells are slightly oversize.
Took a lot of faffing around to finally get them sorted as as soon as you took them apart and put them back together again, they were fine. It was only after a very short ride that the looseness reappeared.
From memory, my wheel builder said they had had about 10 faulty Pro 3's so far - which was back in July I think
Cheers for the quick answers...
I'm only really a aware of a vibration when lifting / pushing the bike before I get on and ride it.
davidtaylforth did the play go away by itself?
Mmm I have had them just over a year built by my lbs. Might have a word with them 1st.
davidtaylforth did the play go away by itself?
Yep, it did. Dunno how, I could definitely feel it, then it disappeared. This was in the front wheel on a couple of sets Ive had.
I initially went through being told that the front quick release was not tight enough, then that the hub was not actually done up tight enough because it was binding when screwed up so it felt tight, but wasn't. Finally I tried new bearings which made no difference. Then I sent it back
I find it's worse the tighter I do up the QR.
Had this and swapping bearings sorted it
Just to answer my own thread...
Changed the bearings on my front Pro 3 and that's sorted the play. They were actually quite worn / graunchy.
Ordered bearings for the rear now.
Where do people order cheap bearings from online these days?
