Read that this is possible - will sram NX groupset fit on an 11speed hub? don't want to have to upgrade the wheels too (its a 26er).

Are newer sram cranks still that weird fit on a hope bb where you have to fit a space on the NDS or do they fit a normal shimano/hope bb ?

Any of the 11-50 cassettes should fit. Pro 2 can also have the innards updated to evo spec, which will let you use an xd or (now) microspline freehub.

Pretty sure gxp cranks are still gxp fit i.e. with the step. Dub is a straight axle but a different size.

Good stuff

Do you know where you can find the upgrade kit to convert to evo?

If it is expensive might be cheaper for me to source a 2nd hand wheel with a suitable hub - this is only for my old hack hardtail which I use for towing the kids so don't want to spend too much to get a bit more range than the current 1x9

I think sjs cycles might have it, but I don’t know about xd or microspline. Top of my head, you need the new freehub, a new axle, end caps, and a change of hub bearing. Possibly a new axle spacer to go behind the freehub. Could be worth emailing hope when you’ve decided on which cassette you want to be able to use.

Tbh if it’s just for that, you might be better off looking for some wide range 10 speed stuff. The last gen Deore does an 11-42 and matching mech, or stretch a mech you have lying around.

Iirc someone might even have done some wide range 9sp cassettes

I changed (or asked The LBS to) from standard to XD driver on my Hope Pro 2; I run it with Eagle 12 speed on a 26 in wheel.

You can get some good options on 10 speed and 11 speed set ups. I would look at Bike Discount DE or Bike Component DE at their upgrade kits; you can basically by an 11 speed upgrade kit that comes with wide range cassettes, mech and shifter. I converted a 10 speed XT mech with a RADR cage from One Up, but I think you’d be better off buying a 11 speed set up now, which would not be too pricey.

The Evo has a full axle IIRC as the original rested the bearings directly on a 12mm through axle which tended to snap them, dunno if there was a conversion kit? That's why freehubs were different, the older ones coul duse 12mm ID bearings. And a hope freehub is going to be another £65 if it's possible, and end caps.....

I want to convert my evo to 12s microspline and TBH I'm inclined to save it for a nice blingy auadax type build at some point as between that and boost it's a lot of bits and >£100 when a novatec hub is ~£65, or a Pro4 £160.

Iirc someone might even have done some wide range 9sp cassettes

Pretty sure sunrace do them. If not 9s, then definitely 10s.

That sounds like it will work out expensive on upgrading the hub.

12speed NX works out about £168 on CRC (less tcb + bc) for mech, shifter, chain and cassette - if it fits to a standard pro 2, which I think it should. moving to 10 or 11 speed doesn't seem to save me all that much maybe £20 for an 11 speed SLX setup. deore 10 will be cheaper again, but imagine I will still need to add a shifter and chain as well.

Basically, the only thing you keep making a pro2 into a pro2 Evo is the hub-shell and bearings.

New axle, new free-hub body. In practice, new hub-shell bearings too. You save on having to do a wheel build at least.
