Just popped up on Facebook - Hope how have a licence to make Microspline freehub bodies from 1st Jan.

Can't help think this is going to be too late for a lot of people who have gone 12 speed, and Shimano have lost a lot of fans.

Yep, I think you are are spot on.

Glad Hope are making them now though as it still gives me more choice for the future. It's the main reason I buy Hope hubs.

Wonder if GX mech will run on the shim 51 cassette? Hmmm....

Dunno, if you had hope hubs and really wanted shimano 12s i imagine you probably went with a sram freehub. Infact i imagine if you were that bothered about bleeding edge kit you probably wanted a 10t sprocket 4 years ago and used sram 11s cassettes.

Speeking of sticking with 11s, its only been 3 months since they launched xt 12s. If i was upgrading id be planning on running the 11s chain and cassette into the ground first over winter anyway.

Tl:dr, its an extra sprocket, not a game of thrones knickers in a twist oddesy. I doubt many people went out and bought new DT wheelsets to replace perfectly servicable hope hubs and hope arent really into OEM.

I like Hope hubs, I have four pairs of them, but I don’t think Microspline will be available for any of mine as they aren’t the latest Pro4

The difference in shift quality, especially under load of the new 12 speed Shimano against Eagle is very noticeable. Whatever your feelings about number of gears, ratios etc that is probably the best reason to switch to Shimano.

For info - I spoke to Hunt about this last week. They also thought they would be able to supply the new freehub from January and that it would be backwards compatible with all their current MTB hubs.

I had read that Novatec would be producing microspline from Jan too (apols I can't find the link right now) - hence Hunt will be able to offer them. That info from Hunt would indicate that Novatec will be supporting their older hubs which is good news.

Their (Hunt) hubs/freehubs changed during 2019… so I wouldn’t assume that all their older hubs can take microspline, just because the “current” ones can. Let’s wait for the announcement…

Hopefully it opens the door for companies that have stayed loyal to Hope and Hunt (like Cotic 'just for example') to start offering 12 speed XT in the new year! 🙂

They're doing them for Pro2evo as well.

So it is, they’ve added that since I saw the post. Good news for us with older hubs

i have just fitted a shimano 12spd groupset and am using a sunrace cassette. I was of the opinion it was simply when a hope freehub was released not if, and was willing to go that route until Hope/Shimano sorted themselves.

No way was i going to go 12spd with Sram.

Just browsing these new freehubs on Merlin cycles. They're listing 4 items for the Pro 4.

10mm,
QR,
12mm,
12mm boost.

Surely the difference between 142 and 148 is in the hubshell and the freehub and end cap are the same.

Meh where’s the 12 speed di2 rear mech that’s what I’m waiting for 🙂
(Part of me thinks it could be done in an update to the current one but when they can sell a load of new 🙁 )

Correct. They're the same product code when you order from Hope - HUB545-X12

How does the Hope boost conversion kit work? Is it an extra 3mm both sides? If so, it could be a boost converted option with a longer spacer.

Might as well make it wireless while they're at it.

I'm using a hope boost conversion kit, the end caps are just 3mm longer, I'm wondering if the micro spline has a conversion end cap option, I hope onzadog is right otherwise I'll be buying a new 148 hub.
