Hope Hub Engagement issue?

I don’t know if I have a problem or not.

have just fitted a new free hub body to a Hope Pro 4 rear hub, everything works however I feel as though the engagement is off. When I turn the cranks after freewheeling, the hub clunks and doesn’t engage immediately. I’ve not used these wheels in over a year as had been using a different wheel set prior go this change, without any issue.

is there something obvious I am not understanding or is this just how the hub is. I don’t remember having this issue before but otherwise everything works as expected.

Nope, does not sound right.

Are the pawls gummed up with old grease ?

I've had this with a Pro 3 road hub, and and RS4. The RS4 settled down after a few hundred miles, and still occasionally reoccurs after changing cassettes. Pro 3 always felt off - convinced it was the cause of some hip pain after a particularly long ride - replaced with a 240s.

Had both apart and serviced / replaced pawl springs - didn't help.

Edit: Also tried the zip tie hack, double springs, lighter grease - never did work out what the problem was.

Have you made sure the green freehub seal is properly fitted nice and flush

It can be a pain to get it fitted right if you dont have the seal tool and can cause the freehub not to engage properly

Do you still have the thin spacer washer between the freehub and the hub body - it can stick to the freehub when you take it off.

I believe this is called a 'barrel spacer' and is 1mm so easy to miss.
