With reference to the conversion kits (for a Hope front hub from 5mm QR to 9mm thru axle - Hope part HUB433)

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/hope-pro-2-conversion-kit-9mm/rp-prod40654

Does anyone know a source for a decent 9mm thru axle or even a bolted axle - would be ideal to have a RS type Maxle Stealth non QR axle but with a 6mm allen ket 'nut' on the end.

I know SS used to make a 9mm QR some years back - prefer a DT type but even better if it combined the allen key Maxle Lite with a nutted end.

So ideally this (in 9mm) with a nut for the end:

I would have the hub conversion bits for a Pro 2 evo as well.

Rosebike have 9mm DT Swiss RWS very cheap at the moment. Think I paid £5 for one!

Just had a quick look at the Rosebikes one. I think it's the older, plastic-handled version. They're prone to stripping the splines on the inside of the handle if you're even a little cack-handed. The later aluminium-handled version is a lot more robust.

CRC sell them but they're currently out of stock.

Never had a problem with mine. Did remove the handles and just use them like spanners when I needed them as they were prone to breaking off if they got clobbered.

Just been checking these out and various reviews - lots of reported issues with the plastic ones but still maybe worth a punt at the low price.  BUT has anyone who's had both comment - does the alloy version (during the rotational tightening) keep the serrated washer still or does it rotate with the handle effectively grinding away at the frame?  This was another thing noted with the plastic model.

Obviously with a cam action QR this never happens.

I have found that the washers did sometimes turn and gring the fork a bit. I assumed with my lack of mechanical knowledge that it had corroded a bit internally and required lubrication. A single drip of oil every few months into the outside of the mechanism has prevented this happening. the handle alloy handle has taken a battering and survive. 4.5 yrs and still there.

Thanks, wonder if it's the same on the plastic ones?

Important thing with these is that the hub serrations themselves bite in so the hub is held more than the QR though, seem to remember some QR's (old Ringle?) and bolt throughs do not have serrations anyway.

I did find a bolt that I was describing - seems to be the Hadley one:

I've never seen plastic handle one in person.  WIth an allen key type I would be worried about shearing it off. Hope do a 6mm bolt rear axel, do they do a front version as well?

Thanks - not seen a Hope front one but I thought the rear bolt was discontinued.  Any news on your conversion parts and how likely you might have them available before I buy new?  Please PM if possible.  🙂

The RWS one was a lot better than the superstar one, did up a lot tighter, which is the whole point of it.
