I recently changed my rear wheel/hub (DT X430 on hateful M525) for a Hope hoop - went for Hope Pro 2 with Mavic xc717. A few (ahem) "suggested" than Stan's is a better option but clearly it's too late now for the rear and so far the Mavic seems fine. But I am going to change the front wheel for another Hope Hoop - I'm not that heavy (11.5-12 stone) and not hard on the bike (not many jumps, big drops, etc) but I do wear stuff out very quickly because of fairly high mileage usually at full pelt.

Now I quite like the look of my bike and am quite keen to "match" if possible - shall I just ditch this idea and get a 355 rim instead? I run tubes and narrow (1.8) tyres if that makes any difference?
Of course there's Hope 3s but it seems they aren't very strong?

Current front wheel is a Spesh Stout (actually quite good)/ DT X430 which I'm going to stick (along with the old rear wheel re-built with a new XT hub) on wife's Rockhopper.

Cheers all!

OK, I've had 355s and flows (and DT 5.1s).
You're a light bloke so running flows or similar just wouldn't be worth it.
I reckon the 355s would be fine. Roger musson (wheelpro) said that even at my weight (14.5st), 355s would be suitable for normal riding. I changed to use wider tyres and hopefully to get more life out of them.
Pro3s are very expensive for limited (IMHO) improvements.
Also with the stans, you could go tubeless which would save even more weight.
HTH.

Stans ARE better.

I'm the same weight as you and run Flows for DH and big gnarly stuff and Olympics for XC racing. The 355s are somewhere in the middle, which is basically what you want.

They're lighter by quite a lot in a place where you notice.

Take the stickers off and they'll match!

Been a massive 717 fan for years but recent changed both my wheelset...

Pro3 on DT Swiss xr4.2D and Pro3 on stan ZTR 355 and must say been very impressed with the 355! 😉

must admit matching wheels look a lot better...

I think I'll just ignore the "non matchingness" then and get the 355 for the front.
