Can anyone link me to anywhere which specifies the type of bearings needed to replace in a Hope headset with EC34/28.6 Top and EC44/30 Bottom? I have trawled the Hope site but to no avail, no reference to the actual bearing type anywhere to be seen.
Ideally I don't want to replace with an expensive Hope bearing, despite that being right for longevity, as the bike is going into semi-retirement. Just a bearing to get through a few more rides is fine, there must be something out there???
Pop the seal and fill with grease?
@Kelvin, yup. I spend a ridiculous amount of time yesterday on that website and at no point do they mention the bearing. They have one stand alone document with bearing numbers but no link across to the different headset types.
There are only two bearing types, a big one and a little one, and the specs are in that PDF. You need two little ones if you have a 1A or a 1B… one of each if you have a 1H.
@kelvin - thanks, that info is useful and narrows it down. however I am still failing to see the actual bearing reference that I could type in to google and have a search around. Will take another look, it's a small and large I need. *edit* I see the 2 bearings and the dimensions, spotted this yesterday as well but hadn't registered that it was just 2 across all versions so thanks for pointing that out. Still no code to search with though. If they didn't have the chamfered edge it would make it a bit simpler I guess.
Right, off to trawl the internet again using the sizes, oh what fun
The dimensions are in the link, thats all you need to get the right bearings.
Different manufacturers use different codes for that bearing
40/52/7 45/45
TH070
MH-P16
30.15/41/6.5 36/45
MH-P03K
TH873E, MR122 etc
@bigyan OMG 🙂 I am sure that makes sense to someone somewhere lol, to the layman, not so much.
Thank you for the help though, and apologies for being a bit thick on this subject 🙂
No need to apologise… headset options are a bit of a minefield these days. It's not Hope's fault, and definitely not your fault! Easy to get spares once you have the right numbers though. Lots of headsets use those 2 sizes… I have Hope bearings in a Works headset, and my Cane Creek uses the same sizes as well.
Thanks all, think I have 2 correct bearings winging their way over to me this week.
