I have silenced my Hope ProII Freehub - but not sure this is a good thing! I was trying to change cassettes but found that the cassette was wedged onto the alloy free hub pretty solidly (only the outer 3 rings). In the end I "persuaed" it with a soft face hammer and an allen key - with the result that the freehub shot off the hub - still attached to the damn cassette.
I have replaced it, and it no longer makes the typical Hope sound. Checked it again, all four pawls are in place, they flip out and back as normal, the freehub engages fine, and I managed a 30mile ride without issues - but the silence is unnerving me! Is this an indication of impending doom or will it be ok?
Can I buy replacement clicks? 😉
If you fill it with grease the click stops 😉
Sounds like the ultimate improvement. Can you do that to all the other Hope-hubbed riders?
You can make it click louder by slightly stretching the pawl springs (can do it on a bulb for sure)....
Apparently trials riders do it for a more reliable engagement...
