I have a hope pro4 hub in the rear, with a new possible frame purchase with a pinion gearbox i would need to convert the hub to singlespeed. Is this possible? or new hub / wheel time.

Thanks in advance

Shimano freehub?  Just stick a single speed kit on (spacers and single sprocket)

You can buy a single speed hub if you want but it isn't necessary.

What is the potential pinion frame?

That. The benefit of a single speed specific hub is the flanges are slightly wider spaced. You may or may not notice the difference in riding it.

if it’s the same frame as I’m wanting (IIRC it is...), I’m super jealous...

Its a deviate guide, when you say shimano freehub i take it you mean just replace the hope one? I was hoping to avoid that for now tbf. If i can convert the hope one i will as it saves a wheel rebuild as well.

Yes, they sure can !

Hope Pro4's can take XD, Shimano or the new Hope propriotry freehub.

I had a ride last month, took 10 mins to convince me to buy! Then the chap buying my flat pulled out at the last minute 😡😡😡

Basically if you don’t run a sram XD cassette, your current freehub will be fine

You can also get a singlespeed kit for the XD freehubs.
See Guesset HERE.

The spline arrangement on the outside of Shimano freehubs is a standard. If you've a Hope hub with a Hope XD freehub then you'll need to buy a Hope "Shimano" freehub or find a singlespeed cog that fits the XD.

I hadn't seed the XD kits either.  Looks ideal for the OP unless he wants to go all out and get a new single speed hub

There's a few of the XD SS kits on the market now, though they all offer limited cog options..
I've got a design somewhere that adds a short length of Shimano spline freehub to an XD freehub, to allow you to run a series of spacers for the perfect chainline as well as pick any traditional SS cog. Was faily cost effective too..

Another option is swapping the XD freehub with Shimano with someone on the forum. They are both in high demand due to swappinng for preffered drivetrains (or for the traditional SS setup in some cases).

Hope freehubs have an aluminium body, don't they? If so, be sure to get a wide-base sprocket, not a pressed steel one. If not, ignore me. (Though a wide sprocket is still a good choice.)

Actually, before you buy anything check what size sprocket you need on the back and make sure you can get the right size.  Deviate are probably the best people to advise.

Love the look of the Guide, Cranked Mag had one on their stand at the Bike Show.  I'd love a go on one.

Just picking up on the limited cog options thing. The deviate needs to have a 30t rear sprocket to match the front, something to bear in mind if you have a sram freehub currently

If it does need a 30t I think your best bet may be to get/swap for a Hope Shimano freehub and buy a pinion chainring carrier to go on it.  104bcd 30t chainrings are relatively cheap.  When you get your demo take a look at what Deviate are using.

Just thought of something else.  Freehub pickup.  The Pinion gearbox has a built in freewheel which along with the pickup from your freehub adds to the lag in getting drive when you start pedaling.  If this bothers you single speed hubs generally have more engagement points and reduce this lag.  It doesn't bother me with Hope's 40t freehub but I started to notice with the earlier (were they 24t?) freehubs.

I wouldn't fret about it now but maybe give it a moments consideration on your test ride.

Deviate supply their own sprocket/chainring iirc

if you get another freehub following rubber bucaneer's advice (which sounds good to me), go shimano and get a spacer kit with more adjustment eg

http://www.velosolo.co.uk/shopsingle.html

looks like that gusset XD kit doesn't give you much choice about where the sprocket sits, which might mean you have to mess around at the other end to try and get a nice, straight, efficient, quiet chain.
