Not searched the forums as I am being lazy!
Anyway I am in the process of changing the brakes on my Whyte M109 from Deore to Hope Tech M4.
Tonight I have installed a new 183mm floating rotor and it is really close to the fork leg (2mm max) and the rivets catch the existing Shimano mount.
Will a Hope mount cure this?
just shave a little metal off the mount. 2 mins work - sorted.
I had a similar issue with a Hope floating rotor on some Fox 36's. I had the Hope mount and it fouled. Had to machine about 1mm off to clear it. Out of all the mounts I have ever had, Hope ones seem to be the thickest. Might be worth looking out for some slim ones, or ask whoever is selling one if they could measure the width for you
Is it maybe the hubs?
I run Hope hubs on my hardtail and have no problems whatsoever using Shimano mounts. The hubs on the Whyte are own branded possibly made by Formula.
Right, off to swap wheels between bikes to see if it makes any difference.
Rivets used to catch my mount with ny old XT's, wore itself down in the end!
Known issue when putting hope floating rotors on none hope hubs. Don't ask me why it happens, but clearance is an issue and causes what you are describing. As others have said, shave a bit off the mount, but make sure it doesn't catch the fork as it does with the fox 36/spinergy combo in me shed.
Same problem with hayes. A few minutes with an angle grinder sorts it out.
some hubs are wider than others, that means the rotor is further outboard, causing it to touch the mount.
Had a similar issue with xtr callipers and hope floating rotors.. in the end changed the rotors 🙂
Real issue I think is that Hope rotors are really only designed to work with Hope hubs.
As I don't want to change the wheels/hubs I have taken the rotors back.
Thanks for your input.
