About to start the winter commute at the new job. Some busier rural road stretches make me want something brighter than my 2x smart and exposure red eye.
Interested in the District+ rear light. Had a Flare that was hideously unreliable but wondered if there were any alternatives to the Hope?
Brighter than a Red Eye?!
I have a Blaze and a Lupine Rotlicht, both very nice lights; I think the cable on the District makes it a bit impractical.
I like Exposure lights as they're all in one. I've got a Flare which has never missed a beat - what was wrong with yours OP? If I was buying again though I'd get a TraceR just because it's USB chargeable (or possibly a Blaze although it might be a bit OTT)
I used a District+ for a couple of years. Once got pulled over by a policeman and was expecting a ticking off for how bright it was, instead he asked me where he could get one for his road bike!
Now I run a Exposure TraceR and it's much more convenient - don't have to carry around the Hope battery back to run the light etc.
Four4th lights scorpion is a blinder!
Flare was waterlogged in about 3 rides. Went back, fixed but never reliable with frequent turning off mid ride. Angled down, not secure - moved laterally. Not a great light imho.
Imo there is a point beyond which brighter is not better.
CoB tech ftw
2 X Moon Shield. One constant, one flashing.
CoB tech ftw
?
Budget option, I've got the magicahine rear light, works with 8.4v batteries, bright as anything, and angled down so it illuminates a big patch of road behind you.
Mine's been spliced into a Magicshine P7 front light to save on connectors and spare cables eveywhere on the commuter bike (which also gives a clue how old it is) but you can just run it with a Y spitter cable.
Hope District+ recieved from Merlin but it's no longer the machined alloy collar and bayonet fitting (as per picture and spec on Merlin) but a quick release with rubber bands and or velcro plus the angle attachment looks flimsy compared to the bayonet.
Back to the drawing board.
to be fair the bayonet mount is a pain if you have more than one bike as they are expensive and have to be seatpost mounted.
