Hi All,

I recently purchased a set of second hand wheels with a bulb front hub.

Referencing -

I have parts 1, 2, 3 and the two of the left-side of part 4. I do not have the right-side of part 4. Is this correct? In other words, I have two small QR plugs that fit inside the axle (part 2), which is contained within the bearings (parts 3). One side also either doesnt have the bearing pressed in completely, or the QR plug that fits into it is incorrect - as it does not sit flush with the hub shell.

Thanks for your time!

The QR converters on a Bulb screw together.
The longer part No4 should have an internal thread and the shorter part No 4 should have an external thread.
Both of the parts have a hex fitting in the end slots so you can screw them together.

I have two spare clomplete QR adaptors if you want to buy one?
They are no longer available as a new part.

Thanks for your reply!

I've uploaded some images to try and help explain the situation better, perhaps you could let me know if I've been sold the wrong thing!

I'd appreciate the correct adaptors if I need them, I'm also after a black rear bulb hub to match.

The adaptors in your second pic look like they're from a Pro2 not a Bulb.
I'll dig one of the axles out and take a snap of it for you.

No Idea if it is or not.
Looks kind the same as the one I have.

Just checked and the spare scew together axle I have is different to the one fitted to my Bulb.
The Buld adaptor has a longer end cap on the brake side.
Pics are of the axle thats fitted to my Bulb so I know that's right.

Edit
Will post pics when they upload

The hub shells haven't changed an awful lot over the years so it's hard to tell if that's a BULB hub from the pics.

But as above, those are not the right adaptors for a BULB if it is. If it's a Pro 2, they should just snap in.

It looks like a bulb. The flange sizes look significantly different (in this picture https://ibb.co/Xx4Bk6K), the pro 2 has very similar flange sizes. Can tell you it's been rebuilt on at least once though.

The longer part goes in from the brake side.

Singlespeedstu's qr convertor is from a 5 bolt bulb hub.
The 6 bolt qr convertor has equal shoulders.

Fraid not Phill, it's in a six bolt hub.
I also have the converter with equal shoulder lengths.
The distance between the flanges is wider on that and you end up with a fair bit of side to side float.

Right idea Phil_H but the wrong way around. I'm still running a set of 5-bolt hubs on my road bike. The 5 bolt has equal shoulders. The 6 bolt, that came after is the offset one.

Always thought the 5 bolt was a much prettier solution, although the very original on the ti-glide was better looking than the front BULB. That was just a bit if a work around for 20mm front axles.

Has it not got a model number etched on it?
Both my Bulb & XC did with corresponding BL and XC in the model number. That would tell you definitively if you are still unsure.

I'd say it's a bulb, and the simple way to compare is the bulb disc side flange is larger than the non disc side, on the pro2 they are equal.
Yup, the adaptor with the longer side is for 6 bolt.
I've a new one of those axles, or if feeling generous, a new pair of 32h bulb hubs(ti freehub) also in black.

The great thing about Hope is that if you drop them an email they reply really quickly (and if you’re lucky send you the bit you need FOC 😉) as well as supplying spares for pretty much all of the stuff they’ve ever made. Year before last the helped me out with a part from a pair of C2 brakes which once had forever.

They have the best customer service I’ve ever experienced in the bike industry (or any industry for that matter).

Tom KP.

Thanks all for the input, really appreciated. I measured the flanges and they are different sizes. The bearings pressed into the hub also match those on the bulb schematic (61084).

So @singlespeedstu you dont have a spare bulb QR adapter?

If anyone has a spare or a rear 36H bulb or similar (e.g. XC), I'd really appreciate it. I've got a rear XC/Sport shell but no internals.

Sorry the spare I have appears to be for the 5 bolt hub.
I could sell you the complete 6 bolt Bulb hub though with qr and 20mm adaptors?
Its built into a 29er wheel ATM but I could strip it down if you don't want the rim.
MP us if you're interested.

hi @tjagain

thats very kind of you, but I have an XC/Sport rear (green logo) and a bulb front, so unfortunately would not work.

hopefully someone here has a bulb front qr converter and xc/sport internals, or a bulb rear failing that. i've ping'd hope an email about the bulb front qr jic.

cheers all

fisch,

Will this do its 36 hole and probably needs new bearings?

Can't get picture to work but it's a gun metal 36 hole Bulb rear.

Hi All,

Could I just ask someone to please post a photo of the internal front bearing spacer tube for the QR bulb? The thing that sits between the bearings, and what it's ID/OD is?

What I have is looking to me like a Bulb front shell but with a pro 2 centre tube and pro 2 qr adapters.

Are there definitely no Pro 2 front hub variations with asymmetric flange diameters?

Thanks again!
