I currently have the X2 tech 3 version on my x/c trail bike. I was thinking of getting the newer version. Has the calliper been upgraded as well or is it just the levers on the X2 ? Before someone asks why change, I have E4 tech4 on my other bike and really like the new lever feel/ modulation coming from the previous version.
If it's just the lever, are they available to purchase separately?

All the tech 4 calipers are the same, but you get the new stainless pistons and green pads.

Apparently and as far as I can tell going by the exploded diagrams on the Hope site the power comes from the levers and the only difference to the calipers is the new Stainless steel clad pistons. This being to help with heat- but if its Xc or such, heat isnt usually an issue so how much difference these pistons make to anyone outwith the long DHing is debatable.

I'd a new set of the tech 3 V4 calipers and married them to the new tech 4 lever.
Admittedly I've not fitted them yet, but im pretty sure going from the above they'll be more powerful.

Thinking of changing the levers on mine - LBS can get them as standalone spares.

I got my Tech4 master cylinders from singletrack bikes.

Also modified the levers and cams to for Tech3 master cylinders.

Biketart. And my first ever purchase from them.
All went well. I paid £105, but I see they're down to £92.95 - worth buying, thats a £24 saving.

Just do your calcs carefully as little saving to be had just buying the levers. When I swapped my Tech 3 E4/X2 combo to Tech 4 E4 the cost of the new brakes (Merlin with a loyalty voucher) was basically what the old ones sold for (eBay). I know 'own' time is free etc but for me was not worth the minute saving to get just the levers.
