Before I have a brake down (lolz) , I cannot for the life of me get my hope tech 3 v4 (purple of course) calliper working well on the rear. New brakes, new rotor and no matter what I do it rubs big style. I've tried realigning the caliper with both pads in and out, but it seems the pads just sit too close to the rotor so rub badly, the whole revolution of the wheel. Any ideas?

Is it new pads that you have fitted? If so are they Hope original or aftermarket? The aftermarket ones are sometimes too quick and you will need to bleed the system, or I would buy Hope pads.

Space the caliper with thin shims or washers?

New pads that came with the brakes. Space the caliper? How do you mean?

Shine a torch from behind the caliper and see what's rubbing. If it's top of one pad and bottom of the other, then there's a non adjustable alignment issue. If it's the front of one and the rear of the other, it's poor sets up. If it's the bottom of both, the spring legs might need teasing out a little.

Before finding a solution, you need a more in-depth diagnose.

In that case either bleed some fluid, or what I would do, drive to the top of a big hill and drag the brakes downhill to bed them in, sorted 🙂

The pads are aligned I think, pretty damn sure . I press the calipers back in with a flat screwdriver and there is a nice amount of space either side of the pads, I squeeze the lever and the pads move in, touch the rotor nicely, I then release the brake and they stay too close to the rotor

Nothing to do with fluid then. Seals might just be a little dry. Ride them a while and see if they improve.

Ok cool, I did think one of the calipers looked a little sticky. Had cleaned them all when I lined it up but perhaps just need a gnar shred tomorrow 🙂

Edit I just stuck a washer under each caliper bolt and it seems to have helped alot

Hope brakes run super close to the disc, so alignment is crucial. Are you running a stright to frame mount (ie a 160 rear or probably 160 front)? You might find that running something bigger will allow you to run alignment washers, that could eliminate the rub.

Something says to me hopes can be like avids and need spacer washers? Or its a 200mm disc, not a 203 you need?

Off the top of my head, hope don't make a 160-200 pm adaptor, only 169-203 so it must be the correct rotor.

The bike has boxxer forks designed for 200mmm disc . I put a washer under the hope calliper and it worked perfectly straight away. The rear has a mount and was running 200mm discs. Again I put a washer under the caliper but the rear seemed to like two washers....

That might explain it then if the fork wanted a 200mm rotor. Hope do make 200mm rotors by the way.
