Shimano basically just cheap and okay as mass produced item.
Only the cheap ones, now look at XT, XTR, Saint etc.

Love my v4s, have them paired with 220f 200r rotors on my enduro bike and absolutely love them, easily on par with the mt7s I had on my last bike, just much nicer levers.
However absolutely hate the look of these tech 4s, surely part of the hope appeal was the look of them
I know there's no sense of scale on those white backdrops but those levers look massive. They look like a big dangly MX levers.
There's a Joe Barnes bike check on YouTube and he's already running custom lever blades.

The levers do have that spindly long TRP-ish look to them, though I think maybe it's an optical illusion and they're not that long? The adjusters look really out of place for the same reason, like they're off a different brake (and I still hates me tool free adjusters on general principles)
But they look good to me overall
I loved my Hope Race levers. Never understood the need for the big nobs (ohh err mrs) considering how infrequently I adjusted the reach etc.
tech docs finally online for the new tech 4 brakes. The shifter mount looks like the same arrangement as the tech 3 but no mention of ispec B being direct fit. The adapters only come in shimano EV or sram flavours so looks likely that older ispec B and Ispec II shifters are out.
Bit of a bugger as I have spec B rear shifters and wolf tooth dropper levers. I think I did buy one wolftooth with a bar clamp option just in case I didnt like the position on the shifter mount. They seem to be £20 for a bar clamp these days which is madness, have seen some 3D printed ones for a few £ but no idea how well they will last and how flexi they will be.
I'm surprised no one (incliding Hope) has offered a grub screw style adjuster for reach and bite point that needed a 2.5 or 3mm hex instead, that threads in and remains out of site. As above, once set, it's not something I fiddle with.
Hex headed grub screws are very easy to find if you want them. I'd do it myself if I still had my Hope brakes.
Has anyone seen a picture of the new levers fitted to a bike yet? I imagine they won't look so comically large with a bit of perspective.

I think they look great. They seem very substantial, and that lever blade still looks massive! I'm a fan of that if it translates to more stopping power. I've been saying for years that brakes shouldn't be whittled away to nothing for the sake of a few grammes when I'm only interested in how well they work.
I'll think about some when my new plastic filled Code RSC's inevitably die and hopefully there's such a thing as sale prices again by that time.

The tech4 lever is dimpled not perforated like the tech3.
From centre of pivot to tip of tech3 lever is 85mm.
Ftom centre of pivot to tip of tech4 lever is 90mm.

Thanks for taking the time to take/share the pictures. I’m definitely interested in some, but just can’t get over the lever length. Wish they’d gone the shorter route, but guess that means the performance gains wouldn’t be as good. Decisions decisions…

There's not much in it, but seeing as Joe Barnes had his so close to his grips I didn't think there would be a huge difference, Joe has custom levers though which do look better and are closer to tech3 shape, I typically run my tech3s with an inch gap from my grips so I'm keen to see the shifter mount, shame there's no underside photos 🙂, but appreciate the comparison pics. I wouldn't have gone black, the silver versions caught my eye.
@tabletop the V4s in purple are my daughter's on her DH bike. Theybwouldnt be my firat choice of colour but thwy do work well.

Very impressed, certainly compared to my tech3s, more power, feel more solid at the lever.
Bit easier to bleed too.
Came with a set of organic pads as well as the flash green ones, be interesting to see how they are with those
What makes them easier to bleed? The only tricky bit was sometimes chasing the air out from behind the pistons in the calliper I thought.

The reservoir is a bit more level and longer, just seemed to make it easier

I couldn't wait for my ispec bar clamp to arrive so 3d printed one last night, obviously I cracked it over tightening (PLA) At 1am 😳 So Gorilla glued a ziptie on, held up fine!

Ive done about 100km on them so far, Peaks, Cannock, Woburn
swapped to the organics after 50km or so
(fwiw I weighed them and they were pretty much the same weight as the tech3s, maybe 10g heavier an end)
Really like the thicker lever, feels more solid than the tech 3s (maybe just fresh pivots/bushings help?)
The Green pads (are they galfas?) have a bit more initial bite, but the organics have plenty
They ARENT shimano instant otb, but more grabby than tech3s, still tons of modulation, definitely feels like theres more power for less input than tech 3s
Honestly Ive not tested them fully yet, need some big descents to really see and thats where I only felt the my tech3s needed more (muddy EWS scotland, last septenber)

I think I'll wait.Currently it appears they're only available as a complete brake unit, rather than being able to get the levers separate. Ive a new pair of V4's meant for the Ebike, so I can replace just the Tech3 levers for these new levers. Far as i can tell the caliper is likely to be the same model as lest gen'.
The Tech3 levers i have are also new, which should upon flogging them offset most of the cost.
I think the only change for the caliper (apart from the graphics) is the hybrid pistons which I'd expect to be fully swappable with the old v4's.
What are 'Hybrid pistons' I've missed out on info somewhere.

I've taken a tiny chunk out of one of my rear pistons when pushing them back in/centering the pads so these will solve that issue.
Should be more slipperyer too.

You say that but then Formula users seem lovely, they never rubbish anyone else's brakes, if you ask them about their own brakes they're effusive about how great they are but don't seem to go off on un-warranted rants about Shimano or Hope or Magura...

I had a rental (broke my own) bike in Italy one year, and the formulas on it were so unbelievably wooden and awful that I swore off them for life.
Curas changed me, have 4-pots on one bike, 2 on the other, and really like them
The last time Hope used a 2 piece piston was on the mini, and due to them having play between the alloy and the steel core they squealed like pigs. I hope this isnt going to be a repeat of history.
They discontinued the 2 piece mini piston in favour of one piece due to this issue(I think). Odd they've gone back to it.
I thought the Mini ones were ali (boiled easily) then became stainless, but maybe they became composite. I am not sure composite what though, ali/stainless?

I've got a pair and I can't tell you how good they are .power is outstanding and the lever feel is almost as light as the hayes a4 dominions they replaced.they come with a spare set of red galfer pads I can 100% tell you they are night and day from the old tech 3.i had to send my 3 ride old Dominion back to wiggle as the master cylinder was leaking but replaced under warranty but I lost faith in availability of long term spares .I got my hopes from Merlin in black and silver and with my loyalty bonus and extra discount paid £322 so I'm delighted.went to antur stiniog last Saturday and they were flawless and just like the light lever of the Dominion have really helped with my carpel tunnel syndrome.buy them you won't regret it .it's been a long time since I've bought something and can't wait to tell everyone I ride with and let them feel them for themselves.

On the brakes overall though, they are outstanding. So much so we're now building all our demo bikes with E4 at the moment, they are that nice its worth the extra.

Cheers, I've got tech 3 V4 on both my bikes so when I can see some V4 green pads available I'll probably swap, and of course try and nab a set of tech 4 v4's if (when) I change my frame.

Yes mate E4 .like Ben said the pads do rattle and I opened the spring and they have been golden since .I opened the spring from the centre not just bending the arms of the spring and this sorted that out .the pads squeeled for all of 3 descents on the first ride and have not heard a peep from them since.reviews say the green race pads wear quick so I took some spares to stiniog which was wet under bike but they still look like new .I did a pb 22 runs mainly black powder so brakes get a good workout and they blew me away.i did order the hope bleed kit when I shortened the hoses and the bleed was effortless.i run the bpc closest to bars and just seven clicks of the lever throw out as I like them close to the bars but feeling solid and that strong grunt didn't alter all day .you will not regret it
For anyone interested, the Shimano mounts do work with some I-Spec II shifters. I email Hope and they confirmed the XTR M9000 as that's what I have.
@kimbers might work for you if you've not got a bar clamp yet and you have a compatible shifter?

That's outrageously tempting.
I like my Tech (Evo? It's the ambidextrous master cylinder) V4s but they just don't feel like they have much bite. They do, but just don't feel like it.theu we're going to go onto the DH bike anyway, some E4s would save putting the Guides onto the Pitch.

See I've always really liked my Tech 3 E4's, got them on both bikes an the oldest pair have been going at least 6 years. I just fancy a little more bite for the steeper stuff!

yeh i think ive had 2 pairs over the years and just didnt like the power, just seemed to fade especially in the wet and it just lacked some confidence
i have heard a few people now say (along with this forum) that the new ones are a different brake almost completely to the old one so very interested as they are easy to maintain and get parts/bleed

I think the only change to the calipers are the new hybrid pistons, so you can use tech 3 or tech 4 or Evo lever with the X2, E4 or V4 (and probably some others!).
Yes it's all back compatible, I could fling them on my M4's if I wanted to.
I've been in touch with Hope today about various things. Tech 4 levers soon to be available as lever only apparently.

Hmmm so tempted after yet another XT lever leak. Hate the wasteful throw away Shimano mentality when a £2 diaphragm would easily fix it.
My big issue with Hopes has always been the hideous constant chirping noise they make wet or dry. Any chance these new ones are quiet? Barely hear a peep from XT’s.

Very common noise, you hear it on pro Hope riders videos. I found the tech 3 E4 really bad for it.
