i need a new BB for my XX1 crank and am tempted to go for a Hope with the conversion.

my question is, is the crank only supported at the non drive side? thus making the bearing on the drive, pretty much, totally redundant?

the video below would suggest that there is some acceptable play on the drive side and all the 'work' is being done on the non-drive side bearing.... that can't be right... can it? (i'm sure it is, but i need someone to explain it to me and reassure me!)

Both bearing support the axle - the sleave in the middle is loose and doesn't do any thing to pre load the bearings....

FWIW 2000 miles on my Road Bike with a Hope PF41 BB, GXP convertor, and SRAM Red cranks now. Not a peep/squeak/groan/croak out of it.

GXP BB's usually last a few hundred miles at best in my experience! Makes the £90 Hope BB look good value after a while...

The hope bearings are 24mm ID the gxp crank is 24OD on drive and 22mm OD on non drive side, the hope gxp adapter is a 2mm bushing to take up the difference. Fully supported in both bearings.

Been running a hope ceramic bb with xx1 cranks with no issues for the last year 🙂

both bearings support the axle but the driveside axle 'floats' on the bearing whereas the NDS bearing is sandwiched by the NDS crank arm and a step on the axle itself. I've run the Hope converter (on Sram Red) and it was okay but did need re-greasing frequently, and the NDS bearings wore faster than the driveside ones. In the end I stopped using GXP as it was a bit too much faff and went back to a preloadable setup.

I've done 1300miles on my sram gxp pressfit and its still going strong. not so much as a rumble or creak out of it.. and its pressure washed after nearly every ride...
