My Hope 24mm BB bearings are finally shot.
They had a good innings but now I'm either going to replace the bearings or change to a cheaper BB.
I already have a spare Saint in the spares box I can replace for £20 whereas cheapest Hope Bearings seem to be £35..so the Hope ones will need to last pretty much last twice as long. (BB came with frame so although impressed with the sealing but don't know if they actually last 2x a Saint BB)

Any cheaper sources of genuine Hope bearings?
Anyone know how much longer they might last ?
Is it worth even trying non Hope bearings ? (rely on better seal?)
Is it worth waiting (fit Saint and see if they come up discounted?? seems unlikely for Hope??)

I used Simply Bearings for some pivot bearings. Got Enduro max cheaper than Orange, just need the bearing code.

Kinetic bearings, sure I've read that's what Hope actually use in their bb's

I understood they were specially made for Hope by INA... ???

I've not fitted them yet but was pointed in the direction of Kinetic by a trustworthy source.

Recently got local repair dude to replace bearings in Hope BB. Grumbly and looking fairly dry within a couple of months. Just ordered Hope ones.

Just replaced some 24mm hope BB bearings. Premature failure after only 13 years of regular use. Unsurprisingly paid for the proper replacement ones. Did seem a bit pricey but like stuff that lasts.

I've read a few reports that from new, pop the seals, thinners clean and repack with a heavier stickier grease is a better idea, and that Hope can tend to be a little dry internally.
There was a vid on yt and pretty much the same insisting on repacking with as much as they could get in and it appears this was the way they preferred. Im sure that a US or Canadian mechanic 😕

Yep, I use Kinetic (and simply) for lots of other bearings but the Kinetic ones are still more expensive than replacing the whole BB with a Saint... I might take a punt anyway..

No argument ... Jnr has had Hope headsets (for reasons of fitting bizarre fork/steerer) and outgrown 2 bikes without needing a change of bearings. If my BB ones are original they managed 5 years... and I don't really expect the frame to last another 5. (depending on Covid or major injury...perhaps) and what BB the new frame takes when I snap it.

I guess noone thinks it's worth waiting to see if the genuine ones come on sale in the next 6-12 mo??

As the Hope BB on my commuter is past 25,000 km on the original bearings I can't help thinking that prising out the seals to put more grease in from new is only going to lead to damaged seals for negligible gain. If they died tomorrow I'd feel I got my money's worth.
