As per title, I think I've ****ed up here. I have installed a threaded hope 30mm bb into my orange stage 6 (73mm bb shell) thinking I was putting best thing in. However, seem to be struggling to find a crankset that will fit?
Hope
RF
Raceface cinch cranks are lovely.
There was an excellent CRC deal on RF cinch Turbines a few weeks back, might be worth having a look see.
Otherwise, I think Hope, Rotor, and a couple of other brands will fit.
*Edit... here you go. Not as good a deal as before, but still half price. Chainrings can be had for £25ish.
RF Turbine cranks
Seems to be conflicting info about the cinch cranks fitting the hope bb? Heard some people needing to play with spacers to get it right?
Also, back wheel is non boost hope tech enduro with the boost adaptor kit fitted. Will the turbine cranks with direct mount effectively be boost set up? Was hoping to use non boost crankset as it should give a better chainline?
Not running it myself (using a RF BB) but heard of plenty of people using the Hope BB with the RF cranks.
With the way the RF cranks work there is a fair amount of adjustment range for BB width.
As for as boost/non-boost goes you're talking 3mm AFAIK? Really shouldn't make too much difference. I've got mine on a non boost frame and it seems to be fine.
Also (I think!) at least one of the ring manufacturers makes boost and non-boost chainline cinch rings.
I would have thought chainring interference with frame would be more of an issue if using a non boost crankset?
I have a cinch crankset with 30mm hope bb works spot on. With cinch you can use either a boost or standard ring, cranks run either.
Hope ones are available with boost and non boost chainrings.
Favourite part of my bike
That's even better then actually. Gives me the option for both. shouldn't be an issue with chainring following frame because of the design of the orange, the chainstay is well up out of the way. This is looking the best option for sure, otherwise is changing bb and then using 24mm crankset
If the ring clears the chainstay then a non-boost ring actually gives a better chainline than a boost ring, on a boost frame, in my experience.
You sometimes need some 1mm spacers to get RF cranks just right with the hope BB, but they're pennies.
I’m running a RF turbine with 30mm hope bb. Been faultless
Excellent, turbine cranks ordered, used a new email to get new customers discount so 86 quid! Bargain. Need to order chainring now, snaggletooth any good?
If weight's not an issue (about 100g more than alu) then you can get the RF cinch rings in steel. I've got one and it's proving to be nigh indestructible.
Also cheaper...can be found for about £20 if you look.
Now, perhaps a little cynical but a Hope crankset might work with their own BB.
I have this setup in both boost and normal and they are identical apart from the chainring and as said above the non boost ring gives a more central chainline on a boost setup. All bb shell sizes are catered for.
I would have liked the hope cranks, but too expensive. My setup is a little different because the boost adaptor for the hope wheels doesn't boost the cassette out, so ideally need non boost crankset, or chainline will be shit. Should be no issue with frame clearance, if there is I'll move the nds spacer to the drivesude, and will then have to look out fir a boost rear wheel. Between the adjustability of cranks and spacers I should be able to get it right, I hope!! 😁
