Anyone had both?
Running Hope V4 brakes on my e-bike with Sram 200mm rotors which are near the end of their life so perfect opportunity to upgrade to Hope Rotors
So the choice is between Hope floating 220mm rotor and the 203mm V4 vented rotor
The 220mm floating rotor obviously will improve the braking especially given the extra weight of an e-bike
But with the extra size comes the possibility of the disc being more easily warped/bent when the wheels are removed and placed in the car (wheels are removed twice on each ride to get the bike in the boot)
Now with the 203mm V4 vented rotor the braking will benefit from better heat management (not really a problem in the UK for me) but will be better in wet conditions and should be a lot less prone to bending/warping when the wheels are removed and in the boot
Is the 203mm V4 vented rotor worth double the price of the normal 220mm floating rotor?
How much will the 220mm brake mounts cost?
Not sure what the price of the brake mounts has to do with my question but 220mm brake mounts are £16 each
The 203mm brake mounts are the same price
Check your fork warranty allows for 220mm rotors (pre 2021 Fox doesn’t, for example), if you do go down that road.
Cheers, not fussed about warranty as forks are 2nd hand 2019 Fox 36's I took off a bike I bought for parts

Not used either but given your requirements I don't see how the answer can be anything but no. I don't think the floating rotors are great value so twice the price just so they don't bend as easily when you put them in the car is mad. Have you considered 2.3mm TRP rotors or even 2mm Magura rotors for a bit more strength? Vented rotors do look cool though
Cheers but only want Hope so they match the brakes, if I were to use any other brand I'd buy another set of Sram 200mm or even 220mm centrelines
Not really bothered about price difference just want to know which ones people found better

This, is wanting to go larger on rotar size, go thicker too to help avoid wobbles/rubbing. Think the Galfer 220 Rotars can be found in 2.0mm and look similiar to the Hope ones.
only want Hope so they match the brakes
Is this because your going for the same colour ways? If the Hope larger rotars arent thicker do look at the other brands.
Cheers for all the replies
The Hope V4 vented discs are 3mm thick and only work with the V4 caliper, so there will be less chance of bending them when i remove the wheels to chuck the bike in the boot
Ordered two V4 203mm discs from Wiggle this morning for £92 each
Then got the correct adaptors and a Hope bleed kit from Brink (Brink wanted £110 each for the discs)
Ive got 3 sets of E4's on other bikes as well as the V4's on the e bike so it will be handy/less messy to use their own bleed kit
So a grand total of £241 which im happy with
“Not sure what the price of the brake mounts has to do with my question”
Because you’ve already got 200mm discs so you don’t need new mounts for 203mm ones.
Ok, but i do need new brake mounts with the 203mm discs
I'm currently running modified Sram 20mm adapters with the V4 caliper and Sram 200mm discs which isn't ideal
The current Sram mount has to be run with a small spacer due to the caliper body fouling the mount which means a small section of pad does not quite make contact with the disc
Plus the very long bolts go directly through the caliper and mount to the frame/fork where as the Hope set up will bolt the caliper to the mount then the mount will bolt to the frame/fork which is what i prefer
If i were to use the modified Sram mount set up with the 203mm disc then i would have to add a bigger spacer giving even less contact with the disc
New discs and the correct mounts for the disc and caliper solves all these issues and keeps everything Hope
Not sure why a bigger diameter would result in less pad contact? But anyway, moving away from the SRAM bodge is a good plan. One thing I would check is what Hope settled on as a standard rotor size, they had something on their site, possibly in their mount chart about standardising rotor sizes and although they would support other sizes they would be less common. May be worth checking (it's all still returnable of you decided you wanted the more common sizing).
All the correct size mounts for the disc are already on their way from Brink suspension (160mm to 183mm mounts) my frame and fork are 180mm so the mounts will be spot on (no more bodge!)
Best thing about Hope is even if they do eventually stop making odd sizes they no doubt will still carry stock like they do with most of their kit (friend recently had them rebuild his 2001 Hope brakes)
