Afternoon folks

I'm trying (!) to help my Dad sort some new tyres. It's for an early 90's Falcon road bike with chromed, 'hookless' rims. Some 700c X 28mm tyres came off it.

We've done a fair amount of research but we still feel a little lost!

Does anyone here have any experience/s with such rim/tyre combinations? Re: sourcing new tyres... any advice regarding size (curiously, we've found several sources mention sizing down to a 27" tyre?!), width, makes/models, what to look for, pressures etc. will be gratefully received 🙏🏻

Many thanks, in advance.

If 700c came off then that's what you'll need, either 27" or 700c could be "period", but they are different. Rim brakes possibly wouldn't have enough adjustment if a swap was made and I doubt that you'll be able to mix tyre and rim sizes (622 v 630mm)
You might hear that the C in 700c stands for "Crotched", i.e. hooked, it doesn't, it's a size
I ran a hookless rim and "normal" stock 700c tyre at 70psi on a tandem and it was fine, but that will vary from setup to setup so check with your LBS

Thanks, @timba

So is it simply the air pressure pushing the tyre wall onto the rim that keeps a hookless tyre in place, given no 'cement'/glue is used?

Also, curious... when I've read of a 27" tyre being used, is the thinking that it's a tighter fit and thus more secure on the rim?

Any other thoughts/experiences from anyone? Any recommendations for a hookless tyre in 700c?

Thanks.
