Further to my thread about the Maxxis Ikons and what they were like, I went ahead and bout a set of the Hunt Proven Carbon XC wheels, I knew they were hookless and didn't think that would be much of a problem. But a quick phone call to Madison earlier and they informed me that Maxxis tyres shouldn't be used with hookless rims, they did suggest Vittoria as an alternative which is a bit of a bugger as I'll have to buy some.
Has anyone come across this before?
I have used maxxis tyres on hookless rims without any issues. I’d assumed that all carbon rims were hookless.
Yep, running two sets of hookless rims with DHF, dhr 2, shorty and Ardent off the top of my head. All Kevlar beads. Never been an issue.
Didn't even know they were not supposed to work hookless.
Thought hookless was only an issue at higher pressures.
That's good to know, saves me buying new tyres. I did wonder if it was a common thing, I know that older (2021 and older) conti's have not to be ran on hookless rims on the side of them as I have two that say that, but the newer ones are fine and don't have the warning.
Maxxis MTB tyres are fine on hookless due to the lower pressures, their Gravel and Road tyres need hooked rims though.
I've used maxxis iKon tyres on hookless rims for ages. (Light bicycle carbon rims)
Never had an issue with them burping etc..

Older Contis are 50-50 on tubrless anyway, regardless of rim
Likewise, been doing it for ages. For mtb mind, apparently road hookless is a bit sketchier but for mtb it pretty much just works.
And me too.

This. As the new owner of a set of carbon wheels and a user of maxxis tyres (Reckon race being the intended tyres to use) this thread has been a rollercoaster from sudden concern based on the OP to palpable relief given the responses
Maxxis tyres on Mavic hookless rims at 30-35psi for the last 12 months without any problems.
As above, I don't think I've used hooked rims in years and up to last year always used Maxxis tyres without issues.
