Just looking at honc route and cant believe how much tarmac is in the route this year !! .....
almost tempted by some semi slicks !
not looked at the route yet (transferred ticket so not been emailed the route) but have heard about a lot of road for this year.
Otherwise the CX's whine like a bunch of little girls about all the lumpy bits they have to negotiate with no suspension. 😉
Ahem...fully rigid CX last year on skinny-assed tyres. Mind you, those frozen, rutted fields nearly shook my eyeballs out 🙂
I may be using 1.3 tyres on the mountain bike, but at least ive got front suspension
best i've got is some 1.9 semi slicks.
Think they'll be going on.
It is a reliability ride not an mountain bike race, that's why there is cake cake stop half way round;)
@ mrmo ... yes it is on the route , not sure if its the same place, but syreford is marked on the route !:(
to clarify that is the RUPP that goes from Syreford north north east. Usually on the route, maybe up maybe down.
The snow may have melted, it was only a foot or so deep and it has warmed up a bit.
mrmo .. yeah its the route and heading down it 🙂 ...
its usually 50-60% road
Spesh Epic 29 with Renegade tyres at 60psi for me, watched a guy on a CX bike pass me and puncture 3 times when I first did it, I would use my cross bike but only have 2 spare tubes 😆
Not to be picky MRMO it is a Restricted Byway now worse luck not that i still use it with an engine 😉
Yes I think the trailrakers are coming off. I'll have a ride around tomorrow and see how things look but unless there's rain it's going to be summer tyres.
CX bike with 34mm intermediate tyres for me, set up tubeless.
I'm guessing there may be more Tarmac this year due to the recent weather, can't blame the organisers, I'd rather ride extra Tarmac than try plow through axle deep mud, that's never fun.
x19 sections of tarmac, most of them fairly short <3 miles with x2 5 mile sections, 37.5 miles in all, about 62%. Last years 100k route had about 24 miles of tarmac.
4.8 inch tyres at 25psi and I will bounce past the lot of you space hopper style
Mantastic, will look out for you... But on 4.8's I think whilst you'll undeniably have fun for a short while, you're also making it MUCH harder for yourself than it needs be! 😉
Weather's looking good, according to my phone 17 degrees and sunny for sunday 8)
So a fully rigid singlespeed is going to be somewhat emotional on the tarmac sections? 🙂
Semi slicks'll be okay then? That's handy, I only seem to have those and some 2.5" Bonty Big Earls
Bad news, there will be a bit more road on the short route.
We are having to cut out a section due to the condition of the bridal way.
A new gpx file with the diversion will be sent out shortly.
Shall i just bring my road bike ??? and just walk the tiny bits of off road ??
Bleurgh. Just been out and the lovely dry trails from Wednesday night have turned back to the Somme.
Looking more and more like a day to go windsurfing instead 😀
Just seen the local weather , gail force winds and heavy rain 😯
Mrmo .... is that a fat bike 🙂 .... guessing its not 🙁
Glorious Cotswolds MUD.Just seen forecast midday onwards tomorrow heavy rain and Sunday looks wild.Least the water will keep the tyres clear :roll:Bloody Monday is suppose to be lovely day Hay Ho.
New route just received ... ! .... one benefit is, its 1.6 mile shorter now !!
Right, tyre decision time. I'll be riding a rigid 26" hardtail, and I'm very tempted to put a ralph on the front and a bonty xr1 on the back, reason being it'll make the road sections a lot easier and if the mud's as bad as people fear it will be, there'll be an awful lot of pushing irrespective of tyres. Sensible choice or reasoning doomed to a day of disappointment and pain?
I've gone for a Bonty XCR Mud at the back with a Razor XC at the front. I think I'll swap the Razor as it will be very sketchy!
