I've seen a few motorhomes down there as I've turned up before in the morning, is it possible to park up at the school Saturday night in the van and kip in the back?

yes, i've done it before but it was a while ago, best to ask the organisers though
I once found a nice pub a couple of miles down the road I think it was on a river, nice to have a few pints and big plate of food couple of quid for camping in a T4

There are lay-bys on the main road between Cheltenham and Winchcombe that you could use if that's what you want (you may have to share with a lorry driver or two).
