Just get maltodextrin in bulk. Cheap as chips, works perfectly well. That's all energy drink is. If you really want you can add electrolyte mix but it's only really useful in very hot weather or races etc. Although it does add a little savoury aspect.

You can add fructose in a 1:2 ratio with maltodextrin if you like. It might work better but it makes the drink hellish sweet. You need squash to flavour it, which is also sweetened, so it gets a bit much so I wouldn't bother.

Most of the links above are about energy drinks such as Red Bull/Monster, which are nothing like what is being discussed.
