You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've been with M&S for years, mainly for the £4K per bike cover. Recently I got my renewal & checked through to ensure everything was OK. Then I came to the statement 'has never been flooded or is not in a flood risk area'
I've never been flooded but my neighbour was flooded a few years ago so I rang to clarify - I'm within 250 yards of flooding so my renewal has been retracted.
So I need new cover & for an expensive 6 bike collection (Mine & GF's)
I bought the house knowing it had never been flooded & that in the past it hasn't flooded as the rising waters overflow a bank before reaching my house level.
So tried NFU - when I declare I've been refused they ask why, I tell them, they check with underwriter & its 'no thank you'. And so onto the next
Two neighbours I spoke too are with Halifax - ran an on line quote, no question about flooding, no question about past refusal of insurance, & I get a quote for £200 less than the M&S renewal.
BUT bikes covered up to £500 each with £50 excess.
So I'm halfway there but not ideal.
Evans & CTC come up with £800-£1000 a year for bike cover alone.
Has anybody got any advice or who else to try?
Should I try talking to a broker?
Please no jokes or smart arse comments, I know I could sell the bikes or just have one, but I'm just trying to explore all the options before I resort to that or have no cover.
Bump for the day shift.
Have you looked to see if Halifax will add the bikes onto the policy as named items?
Have just insured with direct line, no maximum bike value when at home or in the shed. Not covered away from house though. Less than half cost of aviva, over half of that premium was attributable to the bikes.
Good luck, we have just gone through all this, left Churchill because of a crazy renewal quote (despite never having claimed on the policy!).
We called many insurers only for their premiums to be insane or for them simply not covering our bikes.
Only one we found that was worthwhile was M&S but since you can't use them not sure who to go with.
Only advice I can give is avoid these price comparison sites (Compare the market, etc.) like the plague. We have had about 10 phone calls since then despite not agreeing to our information being used or to be contacted by random insurance companies promising to beat their price.
