[Closed] Home contents insurance - which ones still let you insure your bikes?

We've recently moved into a new property and would like to sort out some contents insurance, which will include my girlfriend's bike (worth £500) and my bike (worth £1,500).

Can anyone recommend any decent insurers? I've noticed that many won't insure bikes over a certain value. I do vaguely remember Marks & Spencer being well-rated but can't find whether they still let you insure bikes.

Any help greatly appreciated.

depends what you want to insure - just for in the house when stored (ie insure against theft from break in etc) or do your want for when out riding / transporting in cars / storing in an outhouse etc? if the former (and it is actually stored in the house) many insurers (eg direct line) will just consider it contents subject to whatever their single item limit is. worth asking your current insurers before getting specific extensions on polices or separate bike insurance

I'm with AA home plus, covers you any items home and away. Up to any individual item no more than £5k each if I recall. If its way and stolen it must have been at least locked to be covered .
Garage is £7.5k content

Perhaps do a search devash - been done loads recently.
AA here and cover bikes named and "up to" along with contents, etc.
I'm very happy as are others with them.
Theres a broker on here too giving guys cover who seems to be good - will see if any have to claim and what then happens before passing judgment.

I have just added mine to an Aviva policy, up to the value of £1000 per bike, cost an extra £9.

Mine are covered at home and away from it by Admiral. All are named items on the policy. The premium wasn't excessive either.

I've not been robbed so I don't know how good the policy is.

So are mine, all named items at home and away including accidental damage, policy was cheapest I could find and for the first time in years have renewed rather than move as they stayed competitive. they seem very cheap as adding specialist medical equipment barely increased the cost either.

M&S cover unspecified bikes up to £2K per bike, more than enough for your current bikes. I've had to claim recently and they were bloody brilliant, can't recommend them highly enough.

Have not had any probs with Aviva although ringing them to tell them what you want to insure is a lot better than clicking away online

Have claimed a few times they ring back ask if you're sure you want to claim and that's it the cheque is literally in the post

No appreciable increase in premiums either

Edit: have a sneaking feeling that new customers are restricted to £1500 max for bikes

Darren @ Pedalcover, one of the best policies and superb customer service.

Bikes covered up to £15K both at home and away and no specific lock/security requirements that some other policies specify.

Specifying them on Esure was surprisingly cheap this year

Thanks for the recommendations all. We got a decent quote with Aviva so went with them based on the recommendations on here and others read elsewhere.

OP you appear to be on the wrong forum.......... only 2 bikes! You should just move somewhere with less crime.

Got a few 4.5k bikes covered with pedalcover, away from home etc. Half the price of M&S.

Aviva for us. I tried Pedal Cover, they were very helpful but Aviva offered better cover for us for a bit less. I think this was because we have a lot of bikes in our house but none are mega expensive so Aviva covered them no bother. .

AA Home Insurance Plus just for the bikes as already have BandC with E-Sure. Cover includes worldwide cover and away from insured address as they will be stored in several locations (hence not insured by esure).
PedalCover benefits looked good but came in ^30% and seemed it was new for old with 'choice of bike LBS' for repair/replacement - not so good for YT/Commencal bikes.

John Lewis here, bikes named on policy, new for old cover, home and away. Seem very competitive.

Was with M&S until they tried to charge me £800 for home & contents, John Lewis was £350 for an identical cover.

But as with all these things you only ever find out how good they are if you need to make a claim!

AA will cover your bikes (£1500) you don't even have to have them as named items, get personal possesions cover if you want them insured out the house, only a couple of quid extra
