I'm having a bit of an argument with my home insurers following a burglary in which a bike and a whole pile of parts were stolen - forks, shock, three pairs of wheels, etc. The bike was covered as a single item and is sorted (albeit with a significant hit on the value), but unfortunately the insurers are classing all the other bits as 'accessories', and so only covered up to 10% of the unspecified cyle limit (i.e. next to nothing). It seems a bit of a stretch to class these things as accessories, rather than items in their own right, which would then fall under the £350 single item limit.
Anyone else had this argument? And won?!
Here's the policy wording:

[s]If they are accessories, they surely fall under not covered: "..accessories, unless cycle stolen at the same time" Which it was - in which case they are covered.
and they are not accessories "whilst attached" - so again are covered as separate items.[/s]
OK, just noted the Theft section - well it's easy to prove they are not accessories - go to any online bike shop: Accessories are lights, pumps, bags etc. not components. Components is what you've had stolen.
****ing sharks. Keep fighting and good luck
Good point. They don't really have a definition of 'accessories', so it seems to just come down to interpretation, by people who know nothing about bikes.
