So I've been entering the South Coast Suspension Dream Bike Comp since it began.
Only thing I'd won was £50 credit about 2 years ago until last night........

When I got the call at 8:30 saying I'd won the £8k Dream Bike!!!

Totally shocked!

Just need to decide what to get now lol

Woah. You could buy a [s] top of the range[/s] mid-range ebike for that!
Well done! 😊👍

Excellent! 😎

Does anyone ever win the stupidly big bike/gear/cash bundles for the likes of the Tour De France/Giro/Vuelta competitions on the telly?? I never have 🤣

I've always wondered if that competition was genuine, seemed too good to be true.

I am now very jealous.

Might be fun to enter again...

The van comps are no longer going....

Well done on the win!

I won some forks last year.

Not sure if foxy is going to continue the old monthly format - last month was labeled as the last ever which is a shame - I've been helping to fund other peoples dream bikes since the start 😄

That's brilliant, very happy for you and a wee bit envious. I was in for the Dirt Fund Project bike last week but unfortunately I wasn't as lucky as you. Enjoy whatever you buy.

amazing!

Congrats!

I wouldnt know where to start if i had 8k to spunk on a new bike. (well maybe a Raaw Madonna.... way too much bike for my needs, but it would certainly be a consideration!)

Any initial thoughts?

Congrats on the big win...exciting times!
I won the Exposure light bundle on the weekly draw about 18 months ago, which I thought was epic, but 8k for a new bike...awesome!

I won a BMX on an X-Games "SMS your answer to" competition on Eurosport years ago. Thought it was a prank call when they rang me 6 months later telling me i'd won.
And a chap i know through racing over here won one of the comps to get a high end bike and visit the end of the tour (Vuelta i think) a few years ago, he couldn't go, but did get a full campag equipped team bike. Probably not far off €15k worth of kit at retail. I mean, just the bike was about 10k.

Solid choice, Mega is one of the best enduro bikes out there for performance and value.

I'd be looking at that or the Trek Slash for a 160mm bike.

I've absolutely no idea what I'd get - it changes month to month from an ebike to a full custom trail bike or some combo of both...

@dirkpitt74 congratulations!
I was over the moon a few years back winning the weekly competition of hope parts. He used his discretion and allowed me to get a bike instead after I broke down on the phone (it had only been a few months since she passed away) and he learnt of what happened. With birthday and Xmas money (and some extra from family) I paid the extra and opted for an aeris.
Really nice bloke is foxy, well done again on the win. Not sure what I'd chose in that position though

£8k 😲

That's the kind of money that's so far out of my price range I couldn't even think where to start 🤣. Any brand I'm interested in seems to realistically top out somewhere between £2k and £4k, and I'm looking at Deore/gx models for under half that!

Thanks, set on a Mega – not sure on 275 or 297 mullet.

Gotta be the mullet unless you're diehard 27-4-life, futureproofed and best of both worlds.

The Alloy Pro looks like the best bang-for-buck, the metal frames are a really good weight and there's not much point getting the carbon IMO.

Stock on a lot of the Mega range is hard to come by at the moment, especially in mullet and 29er, a mate has just got an Elite and it's really nice, I'd looked around for a Factory but nothing available.  Seemed to be a better choice in 27.5, though I'd want a mullet or 29er these days.

I'd probably go frame only and get a custom build as opposed to a stock bike.
Lyrik or Zeb Ultimates, XT, Hope etc.

Right then, choice is made:

Custom Mega build - Zeb Ultimate, XTR, One-Up dropper, Saint brakes, Hunt wheels, Nukeproof carbon bars & Michelin rubber.

Sonder Camino AL Apex gravel bike.

@dirkpitt - congrats

more cash

I’ve always wondered if that competition was genuine, seemed too good to be true.

Funny thing is a local rider in a local riding group was bored (smashed leg) and whilst incapacitated entered stuff just to fill in time.
He won the PB Advent calendar bike (S works Enduro I think) so we were all saying "I always thought it was rigged", "always someone in the USA" ... (etc.)

Funny thing is a load of people on PB now saying "yeah it's rigged"

Black. Shock is black, fork should be black.
More black componentry emphasises the frame colour.
Less is more, if you will.

Black fork IMO.

Don't they do that lovely red colour as frame-only though?

I'm sure Hunt wheels will be fine now they've strengthened the rims, but might be worth pricing up EX511s on Hope/DT hubs. Personally I'd go XT rather than XTR and use the money saved there.

Just nit-picking though, your current plan looks great.

Congratulations! That's a cracking prize.

Personally I'd go black forks. Not a fan of the matching frame and fork thing. If ever you need to sell or replace them it'll be a potential sticky point.

Definitely agree with ^ re the wheels. I've got ex511s on dt swiss 350s. Great, rock solid wheels. Also not had an issue mounting tubeless tyres.

Congrats OP - glad to hear someone's winning these type of competitions. A 16yr old in my kid's bike club won a £10k Intense Carbine with full Ohlins, etc a couple of years ago, so it does happen. Just not to me...

Anyway, playing the 'if it was me that won' game, instead of the out of stock Nukeproof I'd look at:

Geometron G1: https://geometronbikes.co.uk/bikes/g1/
or
Deviate Highlander (in stock in M or XL): https://www.deviatecycles.com/highlander150

(assuming you have free reign to buy anything and not tied to certain brands)

And like others mention, for wheels on a bike of this type I'd look at DT Swiss EX471s (or 511s) on Hope Pro4s or DT 350 hubs. Scale back from XTR to XT to accommodate the wheels if necessary.

The ohlins edition privateer 141 looks a pretty sweet bike for the money (and is currently still available I believe). I have a couple of mates on 161’s who love them. Congrats btw, a great problem to have!

Bummer, do you have to source it all via the bike shop (or whatever) organising the comp's dealer network? Or do you basically get a pot of money to spend wherever?

He sources them from his suppliers/direct so have to wait for stock.
Have given him another couple of options to look at.

Medium frames for me - I'm short lol

Thanks for the suggestions - not a fan of the Geometron, Privateer looks interesting.

If your really after a nuke proof..... Pass him the link to the frame (if your after the lrg), he may take a hit on the margin he makes and just buy it from them?

Thanks, I used to enter every month, but hadn't done over the last few months - and usually only 2 tickets on the monthly.

So had a chat, and I'm going for a custom build on the Mega, stock levels will dictate some components!:

Mega 279 'mullet'
RS Zeb Ultimate
Hope brakes & rotors
Nukeproof cockpit - stem & carbon bars
OneUP dropper & remote
Hunt or Hope wheels (depends on stock)
Michelin rubber
SRAM Eagle drivetrain (wanted Shimano but availability is rubbish - but all drivetrains wear out anyway so easily replaced later on)

Congrats man!

I'm currently throwing money at a Commencal meta sx build in a similar colour to your nukeproof. I had same colour thoughts with forks myself. Mine will end up being black but with some custom decals from slik graphics.

Look forward to seeing how yours ends up.

Sooo after a longish wait and a few problems along the way I have my Dream Bike prize.

The custom build option had to get shelved after a problem with obtaining the frame (long story that will stay between Foxy, his chosen supplier and myself...) and one not being available until later in the year.

I was offered a couple of alternatives, but none of these floated my boat.

I had originally specced a full 'off the shelf' bike but at that time none were available and not likely to drop until August.........

So after a search I found an in stock Nukeproof Mega Carbon Elite 290 at 2 Wheels Only in Tamworth.

After a quick call to Grant on Thursday the total prize fund landed in my bank account Friday - and today I went to 2WO and paid for and collected my bike.

Behold my very yellow very awesome Nukeproof Mega 290 Carbon Elite:
[img] [/img]
[img] [/img]
[img] [/img]
[img] [/img]

Fox Performance Elite bouncy bits:[img] [/img]
[img] [/img]

SLX 4 pots with i-spec shifter and 'bonus' Shimano XT i-spec dropper lever (listed as standard Brand-X on Nukeproof website):[img] [/img]
[img] [/img]

SLX 10-51 12 speed cassette & mech:[img] [/img]

Maxxis rubber & Nukeproof Horizon V2 wheels:[img] [/img]
[img] [/img]

Huge shout out to Grant from DBC and Nick & the lads at 2 Wheels Only for sorting this.

Well chuffed with my choice, looking forward to giving it some use over the coming months.

Nice bike but will £8k "only" buy SLX these days??? Or is that just the result of supply chain issues and it cost (a lot?) less than £8k...
