Hi.

I need to remove the BB from my bike and the drive side came away as planned with my BB tool and the Shimano plastic adapter however I cant get the non drive side off, the adapter is just spinning on the bb and not gripping at all.

Is there a BB tool which fits directly on to it rather than using the useless cheap plastic adapter?

Plastic adaptor is for preload only. You need a BB removal tool that goes onto the external grooves.

Nah - he means the adapter that comes with the new, smaller, HTII BBs.

I've never looked for one as the adapter has always worked.

Might be this one? 41mm rather than the old 44mm

Newer Shimano BB’s have a smaller mount than the old, Shimano supply a plastic adapter to step this down (not the same as the preload tool).

Thread on this here that links some metal tools for the job.

Yes, there are.

Park BBT49 is for xtr bb93 and dura ace bb9000
Park BBT59 is for Ultegra BBR60 and XT BBMT800

I bought the adapter for the new style HTII BB, but it doesn't fit in either of my older HTII BB Tools?

It does, it's just a very tight squeeze.

Thanks everyone 🙂

Do you know if this will fit directly on to it?

If it doesn't specifically mention the width then I'd assume it's the older, 44mm, standard - so no.

I'd recommend the "full circle" type BB tool - grips the splines so much better. I have the Lezyne one which has a cassette tool on the other end. (Needs a big spanner though)

It doesn't have the size for xt/ultegra bbs. Only dura ace/xtr and some silly non-shimano size.

Oh right - I haven't come across the 41mm size ones.

This was exactly what I needed to remove an FSA mega exo and fit an XT bb (which was the smaller size)

So there are 3 different 16 notch sizes are there? Gah - stupid things, I'm going back to sq taper.

There's also 2 different oversize ones for 30mm spindle cranks - I know as I've got one of each. I attract the unwary by asking them to come and view my bottom-bracket tool collection 😈
