After getting inspired by the recent Alps picture thread, can anyone suggest somewhere that would be Ok for me to take the family, My wife no longer rides so need something for her to do (swimming pools, hotubs great food) and we've a 3 year old and one on the way so looking for something to keep them entertained whilst I ride for half the day, also things for us all to do together when I'm not riding. Realise this is a big ask but suggestions would be great!

Just been to Austria - Hinterglemm - Fantastic - hot tubs, sauna, 7 courses at dinner and good biking - DH, FR, XC you name it 🙂 Bargin holiday via Neilson. Free bike hire and local guiding (no free but good)

How about Chamonix? I like to stay here http://www.iceandorange.com/ I know there are plenty of places to dump your kids in the winter but not 100% in the summer, I did see this though http://www.chamonix.net/english/activities/children.htm plenty on there even for the younger kids. This may also be worth a look at http://www.chamonix-chalet.co.uk/summer.htm

Wengen in Switzerland. A brilliant mix of mountain trains, ski lifts, villages, cows, walking, riding, spas, pools.

Inghams do some good all in deals there.

Mayrhofen in Austria is good in summer too.

Fantastic town, huge lake 5 minutes cycle away with a beach and childrens play area. All the ski lifts are gondolas too, meaning its easier for non bikers and less sure footed people to get up (and down) the mountains.

(o, and the singletrack is ace too!)

South alps. Plenty to do. Big cities a short trip away. Beaches as well, access to shops, shops, best ice cream maker in the world.

But (there is a but) it's hotter, and riding is more technical.

Around Cannes/Nice/menton.

Obviously Nice is a very good base. Within one to two hours of car you have fabulous rides and lifts available. Some good but very technical riding from the city centre (ableit not much). Peille and Sospel reachable by train.

Or you can do the other way around. Live in a remote place and go to nice in the afternoon (bus passes are 1 € each way).

I'm out to Morzine for a week with the family - its got the outdoor pool and loads going on in the town (inc 3 days of the Tour!). You can get family multi pass for EUR1 a day, which gives you access to all lifts, buses, pools, lakes, etc... so perfect for the family.

Just got to work out how to get two bikes plus baby + gear to the airport...

Does it have to be the Alps? Somewhere like the Basque country has great riding and plenty of off-bike things to do. The food and wine are top notch too. Probably cheaper as well.
