I might have some spare time between jobs in February/March - not an ideal time of year for a holiday but it'd be rude not to make the most of it. Where would be nice for a wee trip? Could take either road bike or MTB.

Canaries
Flight prices go up at the end of Feb for half term and the end of March for Easter but not too bad before or in between

Try South Africa with www.iRideAfrica.com (run by a best mate of mine) You can't go wrong with the weather that time of year...

Coastal Southern Spain has the best Winter weather in Europe if you don´t want long-haul flights.
We´re based right on the beach.
Stunning singletrack rides with plenty of bus uplift during the day & fantastic après-bike on the coast at night.
http://www.sierracycling.com fantastic biking since 1992.

Thanks for the suggestions. Long haul might be a bit pricier than I was thinking of, but Canaries and Spain are both possibilities (have been to Spain before). Was it one of the Canaries that featured in the last issue of the mag? Any recommendations for guiding/accommodation there?

If road is still an option then I'd recommend a training camp (not as full on as it sounds, they cater for a lot of different fitness levels...) with http://www.andaluciancyclingexperience.com/Cycling/Triathlon_winter_training.html been a couple of times already and going next year to (always in March though, it's 18c-25c there then apart from the odd overcast day which I've managed to avoid so far).

AS above southern spain and portugal.

Went surfing there a few years back and it was very pleasant. Locals though we were barmy and that it was freezing but it was at least as warm as a cornish summer.

As above the Canaries are very nice in Feb. Stepping out of the plane into sunshine and 25 degree temperatures is just fantastic.

Nice bike ride up and down Mt. Tiede so I'm told but I enjoy it just doing the usual touristy things. Friendly attitude-free locals and loads of Fakelys to buy.
