You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I'm lucky enough to have a whistler trip planned for the summer and it's been a while since I needed holiday insurance that covers downhill riding. So I'd appreciate any suggestions as to who you are using these days (or the opposite - who to avoid!).
TIA.
I think a lot of travel insurance covers MTB as long as you are on designated trails and not competing. So i have just used that. But others i have been with have always used yellow jersey.
Touch wood, never needed to claim but my own research landed on SnowCard.
I’d just very very carefully check if you intend to rely on basic travel insurance as suggested above, as they are a lot of caveats, interpretations and restrictions on cycling and how it is defined. I’d certainly ask the question of a travel insurer if they would heli-vac me off whistler mountain when I crash on a triple black diamond trail.
Absolutely - Its clear from most sports list on insurers sites that downhill mountain biking is a separate category, so I'm definitely making sure I add the right pack / upgrade when searching.
I've used Yellow Jersey for our last couple of trips and will probably do the same this year. We're off to Squamish & Whistler as well 😎
Looks like there's 15% discount code with STW members discount thingy as well. I see a plan coming together 🙂

Hmmmm
Hmmmm
Ha ha. I've read my policy very very carefully and am pretty sure i'm covered for Morzine trips. But yes, read the policy fine print first.
Who are you using?
Used to use DOGTAG but they went very pricey , worth you checking them out though.
Last 3 trips have been YELLOW JERSEY. Not needed them so can’t speak to a claim.
As above read every bit of the policy. I found some that were all ‘Downhill is covered’ but small print excluded bike parks and gondola accessed trails. And some even had a max altitude.
It’s a minefield and changes every year it seems.
wouldn’t use Yellow Jersey again. Thanks for the reminder. Need to contact them again for medical bills they didn’t pay or refund the cost of the policy at least.
Id forgotten about it. It’s been so long since I made the claim.
They sub out the medical cover and as far as I can tell will do anything they can not to payout.
Yellow Jersey but make sure you follow the policy wording before you run any bills up
I've explained it all prevoiusly but the claims management team that they use tried to get out of paying for the helicopter rescue as we didn't inform them beforehand.
We used the same wording back to them
They did eventually pay out
For what it's worth, yellow jersey T&C's are now different and with a different claims mgmt company. They are a little more aligned to the fact that you might not be able to phone them right away coz you might actually be injured!
Thanks Sam. Ours isn't due for renewal till June.
Do you know who's been used now to manage any claims
Thanks Sam. Not much different with the wording. Let's hope the new claims management company is a bit more understanding.
Fingers crossed we never have to go through it again.
