I've actually got clearance to use my beloved's Stumpy FSR to avoid being laughably over-biked. Under threat of death should anything befall it

Needs a tyre swap tonight though. The fast rolling race-whippet XC tyres I doubt are going to cut it tomorrow. And some wider bars

no tyre will cut it tomorrow..! Just stick with the narrowest, lightest ones you've got.

I've got a spanking new set of GEAX 1.8 mud tyres that have been sat gathering dust in the shed for about a year.

Tomorrow they shall be christened

thinking if it's rock hard and frozen then 29er. if it thaws out and turns boggy, then cx bike.

In a moment of extreme gayness I loaded my geared inbred in the car this morning for the trip north

I'm still debating whether slicks need to be changed for more grippy tyres

Can't decide. SS if it's muddy then either Anthem or CX if it's frozen. No idea if it's snows!

This but with MUD X 2.0 on.
[IMG] [/IMG]

Also 300 riders over a short course will cut it up a lot, so it'll not be crusty and hard for long!

was thinking of doing it on the SS but as my mud tyres are on the alfine HT and I can't be arsed swapping them I'll take that instead. It's a lot heavier but as I expect to be "discussing tactics" with Ton while drinking coffee for part of the race it wont make that much difference!

not sure a "What clothes to wear" thread is just as appropriate ?

I'm not so sure! I think there will be a cold crust on top of a foot of swamp... and then as said above, 300 people will soon make short work of that!

Specialized Storm Controls or Bontrager Mud X's. Which are the fastest rolling?

Rode through some of it this morning and it is frozen solid, hope it stays that way as it has been like a bog for the last few [s]weeks[/s] months! As for tyres I think the any old shit approach will be do for me, maybe go for the lightest for when carrying up MTFU hill and pushing the rest of it 😆

Rigid 29er with mud tyres (probably). Easy enough to drag up the non-rideable bits, bit more grip on the bermy/swoopy sections than a 'cross, but slower on the smoother, faster stuff compared to a 'cross bike...but that'll be a good excuse when I don't get on the podium 😀
