Hi

I have been dealing with really bad hip cramps for the last few years, usually start after a few hours of riding when I still have more energy in the tank. I am pretty fit, ride enduro and downhill and I don't think these cramps are down to muscle fatigue.

I have tried lots of stuff over the past few years, drinking more water, eating better, tabs/ sports drinks, riding more and yes lots and lots of stretching to the point I am pretty flexible- Especially stretching that involves hip flexibility. That being said, the only place I feel getting tighter throughout the day is in my hips.

Not only riding, I can't sit legs spread over a surf board then they cramp really badly.

Anyone else had these problems?

Could be muscle imbalance from too much of one type of exercise, e.g. cycling. You've strengthened some muscles but not others. I have had similar and saw a physio who gave me some exercises to do

What do you do all day normally. E.g on your feet or sitting in an office chair?

Maybe sort of similar but could be something else but been getting a range of cramps and aches for ages now that varies between hips, back, leg and stomach. Focused on the left. At times it's a groin ache like a strain but drifts to hips, lower back but can end up feeling like stomach cramps, then I get bloated feeling and stuff like that.

I can't quite pin it down to riding but it does go away mostly while riding and seems to occur some time after but could be unrelated. It happens more during the week when working, which is a sit down office job and long commute in the car and maybe when I get tense. It goes away if I'm on holiday or a long weekend, and again when riding. Evening meal and drink and I'm feeling better. Because stomach is filled or just as I'm relaxed more or maybe the way I'm sitting on the sofa is better than on an office chair or on the bike?

Weird stuff. At times I feel it's digestion stuff but other times muscular or bone aches.

Could be something aggravating the hip flexors, i've had similar, but the best course of action is booking a physio appointment and having a check to see if they can pinpoint the issue, as stated above, sometimes a single type of activity can cause issues, cycling causes me issues with my hips, which i have to do a couple of courses a week to keep in check, there is so many muscles, tendons, etc in the groin area that could be causing you the issue, so having good flexibility in several areas only hides a limitation in one area that's causing this, that's why physio is always the best place to find out more.

Been trying to get to the source of my frequent random and excrutiating cramps for years. Doctors don't seem to be able to find a reason. Mostly back of thighs anytime I let the muscles get slack e.g. lifting my foot behind me. Front inner thigh and calves quite often also. Last couple of years started getting them in my abdomen. Manifests itself as a tennis ball sized lump anywhere on my stomach. Looks and feels like an alien trying to burst out.

it's your fitness.
and it is caused by muscle over exertion.

Stop lying to yourselves and looking for excuses
.

Hernia?

Not hernia, unless I have had many in different places for only a few minutes at a time. Eventually I just feel the muscle relax and it is gone.
