I’ve recently got back into biking after a number of years out due to kids and general life stuff. I’ve been travelling to Hamsterley to ride, which is great, but I’m wondering if anyone knows of any groups (official clubs or informal groups) who ride in/around Hexham? I’m keen to get some local trails knowledge (I grew up in Durham so don’t have years of Hexham riding and trails maps in my head), and also to get back into the social side of riding again.

Any tips welcome!

Cheers

Andy

Not Hexham specifically but the Beamish Oddsox are an option.

For clubs - Tyne valley MTB and Allen Valley Velo. Looking at them in passing the latter are more road oriented but have a few handy mtbers amongst them. TV seem to be an older demographic.

Depending on what you're riding at Hamsterley, Thrunton may float your boat for a similar trip distance.

Think Tyne Valley are now called Cycling Tynedale. The club is chaired by Ted Liddle (creator of several good route books) and they have a FB page etc.

Hi Andy, I live in Hexham up on Yarridge Road not far from the racecourse.  I seem to only do running these days, and really need to dust of the MTB/cyclocross bike!  I used to know most of the routes over Slaley, Blanchland, Edmundbyers, Bolts Law etc... although I am an expert in getting lost 🙂 and it has been a while.  I'd be up for a ride out anytime.

That’s great, thanks all for the responses. I’ll check out the clubs mentioned - much appreciated.
@cat69uk sounds great! I’ll drop you a message about a possible ride. If any other Hexham riders fancy a ride out let me know and I’ll keep you up to date

Cycling Tynedale is here, they look to have some good adventures out

I did get in touch with them once although didn't go on a ride. They seemed pretty relaxed, meet at X place to do this ride, we'll see how it goes how much we do, stop in this village for lunch in a cafe, might swap sat/sun depends on the weather etc. Probably a good mindset for a group ride but my fitness anxiety and intolerance for uncertainty got in the way.
