Hi all,

I'm overnighting in Hereford tonight and want to get out and ride for a couple of hours. I see the Brecon Beacons are not too far away, is there a decent route anyone can suggest, or perhaps a start point that I should head for that I can the work out myself.

I should be down there a t a pretty reasonable time this afternoon so will have plenty of time if anyone fancies guiding for beers/chips/whathaveyou.

I'm an occasional racer on a year out so am plenty capable and have great technical ability, just without the zing of training in my legs. That said just a couple of hours bimbling around would be great.

Thanks

Dave

Black mountains are closer, and much fun. I could put together a route but I can't do more than vague 'start by that thing and go up there by the trees' etc 🙂 They contain one of my fave climbs which is Tal y Maes aka the Hermitage, and the Reservoir climb is also fun but peters out a bit after the eponymous watery thing.

Sadly I am not able to join you, since I'm over 900 miles away in Germany!

I'd stay start in Talgarth, then pick your way through the lanes SSW to get to a spot called Blaenau Uchaf - don't remember if it's a good trail but it looks good on http://wtp2.appspot.com/wheresthepath.htm and the alternative is a carry anyway. Then from the top of that trail down SW to Gwyrne Fawr Reservoir past that down to the car park. Then you'll want to pick your way up through the woods (if you have the legs for it) and to the top of the mountain at Crug Mawr, then down Blaen yr Hebnant to pick up the lanes (you can avoid this extra climb by going around the lanes). Then follow the lanes North to the place labelled the Hermitage and keep going up and up and up till the obvious coll. Then down Rhiw Trumau (top class descent) to finish.

This is a bit of a monster though so you'll need to get your skates on! Three monster climbs - not for the novice. You can chop that up though if you like - lots of options for shortening. You will however NEED a map.
