Hi,
Trying to replace XD Driver with Shimano freehub. Got what I thought was a complete hub set of axles and adapters. The Shimano axle doesn’t fit.
I want 142x12.....do I have a downhill spacing one or something? Middle section is about 15mm too wide for the hub casing.
My head hurts! What axle do I have and what do I need for 142x12?

Thanks

Looks like an old pro 2 DH axle. The pro 2 evo axle doesn't have a step down at the bearing seat as the axle itself is bigger on the evo where the freehub sits to avoid the past snapping issue and that is why the pro2 evo freehub is different too.
You'll want
Hope HUB229, 462 & 463
Thanks cycle. My freehub fits this axle. If the evo axle is bigger then I’m guessing I’ve got a older DH freehub too?
Cheers
Sounds like it - the newer evo freehub has bearings with a larger ID to accommodate the chunkier OD on the freehub side of the axle.
FWIW just riding along have a nice listing as below:
Pro 2 / Pro 2 EVO front hubs
Front - 6804 x 2
Pro 2 EVO (17mm outer diameter rear axle)
Rear main bearings - 6903 x 2
Freehub - Shimano 6803 x 2, "17x28mm" x 1 or Sram XD 6803 x 3
Old Pro 2 (15mm outer diameter axle)
Rear main bearings - 6903 x 2
Freehub - inner 6802 x 2, outer 6902 x 1
Thanks Cycle. So the axle and driver freehub I sold the other week oils be the axle I’m now needing...bugger!
First dabble with Hope hubs and been caught out already.
Cheers
I thought the evo axle was the same for everything bar the 10mm bolt up version. Just an end cap change to switch standards.
Might be worth checking the bearing size in the freehub you have now. You might have bought a 150mm evo DH axle and freehub. If that was the case I think the freehub is the same (hub shell is wider and axle longer).
An Evo axle should take either freehub standard with no modification.
The older Pro2 axle as noted is different in profile and diameter. A non-DH Pro2Evo should take anything up to 12mm with no parts other than endcaps - axle swapping is in Pro2 land. I have Shimano and XD freehubs that I interchange on one of my hubs depending on cassette (not that I change this very often!)
Sounds like whoever sold you the parts (if a Shop) has got it wrong.
Probably a better source of info than forums is Hope themselves. They’re very friendly and will reply by email usually same day. There’s a ton of info linked off the page, too.

Thanks. Unfortunately axle is 15mm so guessing I’ve got a Pro 2 DH axle and freehub.
Anyone have a Pro2 Evo 142x12 axle, adapters and freehub?
Getting expensive now I think!
Where did you buy it from? If eBay or similar then return it.
If the free hub is still in good condition and the bearings are sound you should be able to sell that on as it will fit any original pro 2.
Could be worth getting in touch with the person you sold your XD freehub too and explain what has happened. If they are fitting it to an evo they will not need your axle and end caps (and may perhaps have a shimano free hub spare)
Thanks Nixie, had the same thoughts myself so asked the chap I’ve sold the axle to.
Who thought it would be this much of a pain in the arse!
