Ok its the ability to switch off and enjoy riding.
My riding is erratic - rarely its smooth, flowy and brilliant fun. This shows me that I don't need 'training' for what I do and enjoy.
The issue is if I've had a stressful week at work I can't disconnect and chill out to ride. Vicious cycle (sic) as riding should chill you out but I get on thebike already drained/burned feeling or just 'not there'.
This then leads me to making countless mistakes, grabbing the brake etc etc. It becomes a chore.
Is there anything I can do to clear my mind before I ride? Any tips?
:yoda-tone: Mmmmm.. this is zen question. Yes. Mmmmm... must find inner zen. :yoda-tone:
Do you ride in a group or alone? I only realised how positive my biking group had been for my mental health as well as my physical health after we moved abroad. A bit of healthy competition should focus the mind too.
Hora - I do the same thing.
It helps me a bit if I visualize my favourite trails/sections before I set off, to get myself in biking mode.
And consciously focus on relaxing for the first 20 mins or so. For me, that means keeping my arms and shoulders loose. It then feels like, after that period, my body "remembers" how to relax without me having to tell it to!
Don't cover the brakes, you won't have any choice but to ride smooth.
wear some headphones, listen to some inspiring music?
So, you need something which involves focusing the mind, breath control and endorphin release....
....I'm sure something will come to hand 😉
haha
