I am trying to give my Fox fork a lowers service ahead of a trip to France on Friday.

They are 140mm Float RLC - I can get the left leg off (bear with me, girls don't do technical terms) but I can't get the right leg loose - rebound side?

How hard can I smashy smashy?

Have I forgotten to loosen something?

😥

Screw the nut on a few turns, leave the socket on, and bash it with a rubber mallet, on a bash scale of one to five..about three.. Ish...

It's the side that the rebound knob goes on, so I've screwed the nut back on a bit and put a socket over it to start smashy smashy, but it just won't budge. Don't want to hit it too hard in case I damage something (and end up Forkless of France). Am I doing it right?

I'll go and give it another go...

It sounds like your doing it right, so all i can suggest is bash it a bit harder...good luck... 🙂

So many questions. How have you got the left off without the right? They are a 1 piece unit connected by the brace. Are you loosening the nut on the bottom of the leg, removing the crush washer and replacing the nut, then using a good quality socket with the nut undone about 3 threads, giving the socket a sharp tap with a mallet? If you've tried this, it is a matter of feel as to how hard to hit it but I would recommend taking it to someone who has experience and throw yourself on their mercy, especially this close to your hols.

I know what the OP means, it's happened to me before.

Pistonbrake is right so if you've tried all that then stand on the underside of the stem and pull up on the lowers to remove and eventually the stuck leg will pop free.

If the nut has been removed the lowers WILL come away if you pull hard enough trust me, it just doesnt want to at the moment. 😀

Wallop's husband here. T'is fine, we've managed it. Just had to hit it harder. She meant she'd tapped out the left damper rod rather than remove the left leg.

Right - judy butter on fox fork seals. Yes or no? I've only serviced rockshox before.

No need to use judy butter just make sure you give the foam rings a good clean then re soak (I normally use float fluid but I believe they recommend 10wt suspension oil now).

Ta muchly everyone - I just needed a man to smashy a bit more. Sorry for my poor explanation of my problem.

That was pretty simple - thank you Mike at pink bike dot com!
