Want to get a proper alloy spare wheel for the car, 65 plate Astra 1600cc estate, but don't know the correct size of the rim. Tried where I got the car from, main Vauxhall dealer, who think the "PCD" size is 5 x 105, although not 100%, also quote the letter "J" which will maybe be stamped on it. Can anyone help me out and confirm if this is the right size of rim I should be looking at please, plenty on E-Bay but don't want to order the wrong size. Can't believe how difficult it is to get this information, even from a main Vauxhall dealership. Your help would be most appreciated.

Try a different Vauxhall main dealer

Doesn't the handbook tell you what to get?  Otherwise, as above, a competent dealer should know - when I got new wheels for a Peugeot, I went to a Merc main dealer (I knew, and trusted, the parts chap

To be fair to the parts man that age of astra is a pain, some are 105x5 and some are 115x5 the fool proof way to check is take a wheel off and he part number will be on the back. From memory you can tell on some by the centre caps (115mm has bike centre bore so bigger cap) or you could go old school and measure it.

PCD is your bolt pattern - how many holes (5) and the diameter of the circle they're in (105 or 115mm in your case). A main dealer should be able to tell you what your PCD is just from the reg, if they're database is worth it's salt they'll be able to bring up all the parts diagrams for your car based on only the reg.

Of course the parts adviser may not be bothered as you're not buying anything from them.

If you're buying another Astra wheel then you shouldn't need to worry about offsets and the like.
