You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hello,
I need your help guys. I'm planning on getting the Mrs a bike for her birthday. She has told me she doesn't really like the traditional girls mtb with a dropped top tube so I have been looking around. I don't want to spend too much, ideally £150 to £200.
I found a 2008 Saracen Diva 2 (£299 originally but now £179) but I can't decide if I like it or not, I think perhaps it looks ugly! Also, looked at a Carrera Subway which is about £230 so a little over my budget but it looks much nicer. Another alternative is a mens bike, namely a Ridgeback MX3 which has been reduced in my local shop to £150 from £300. What do you guys recommend? Are girls okay on a mens bike as I know the geometry is different? If I did that I was thinking a 16inch frame as she is 5ft 6.
Help would be appreciated.
She'll be fine as long as she doesn't wear a skirt 😉
I think the most critical thing is arm length and posture (Top tube eff)
So many people do this for birthdays and screw up.
I would personally make her breakfast, drag her out and let her choose the bike with your help when asked! Just do some homework with models and stock. Pay for bike.
Then let her enjoy her day and take out or cook dinner for her with no questions asked massage.
Sorted.
I'm fine on my On One as it has plenty of 'standover height'.
Don't discount the second hand market.
Thanks for your help! Maybe looking at an MX3 now, she doesn't mind a girls frame apparently if its not pink and flowery!! lol
