A bit tonight in cheek, this.

Running related, but hoping the principles will apply to cycling as well.
Just come off the back of 3 70 mile running weeks, did 11 miles last night and 7 this morning. My legs are in pieces and I was looking forward to a lazy day and a light run to clear the legs tomorrow night.

Text from Mrs Lunge - “Don’t forget, we’re running tonight”. Mrs Lunge is fit (in both ways I’d argue!), and this will likely be 8 miles at a reasonably hard pace. If I lose, and there is a chance I will, then I will lose house bragging rights and this can’t happen.

So dear STW, I have 3 hours to get my legs to a place where they will run at 7:30 minute miles for an hour. I have a cupboard full of food and a foam roller. Any clever food or drink suggestions to help make this possible?

Black coffee with coconut oil instead of milk then warm up the legs on the turbo 10 mins prior to the run. If that doesn't work you are screwed

Have a red bull. If their marketing is to be believed (I’ve no reason not to...) then it will enable you to simply fly along, allowing your legs to recover further.

Not food related but ice or cold water bath followed by some stretching and foam rolling?

Right then, just polished off some slightly out of date SiS ReGo, that can’t do any harm.
No eShoes and I can’t afford the running equivalent that is Nike Vaporfly’s. I could wear my fast shoes but she’ll know what I’m up to and go even harder.
I think a cold shower and some work in the roller will have to do.
A coffee and a good warm up are on the cards too.
This is going to really hurt.

Good luck. You could always offer to ride to help "set the pace" 🙂

Just run slowly she'll run slowly because there will he no competition.

Near the finish clip her heel and sprint for the line. Rubbing's racing.

Get a faster mate to run for you, wearing a balaclava / face covering for the protection of passers-by.

Eh...doesn't foam rolling (and static stretching for that matter) leave your muscles a little bit gubbed for hard efforts immediately after?

I bought that 'Core Advantage' book recommended by others on here, he suggests doing full range of motion stretches but not holding them, just move to stretch and immediately releasing.

But yeah, quick hard warm up, maybe a beer to numb pain in the legs!

Eat a couple of painkillers and crack on. May be spray your legs with deep heat too, just because it’s tingly and smells nice.

When she gets back open a bottle of red, lit candle in the centre of the table, nice meal, and she'll forget about the running?

Snake oil. Failing that neck a couple of out of date gels half way around your run, you'll have never run so fast...

Apply blue tac to the bottom of her shoes? It'll be like running on treacle....

2 wraps of wizz should see you right. Take 30 mins before setting off.

If unsure where to procure this, ask the nearest kid on a bmx.

You don't need to run faster, that's hard work. She needs to run slower.

Wee in her shoes.

Well then, as expected, my arse was handed to me. Had an espresso and did a good warm up before the run but it was no use.
I was fine on the flat but anything up hill she took great pleasure in running away from me.
Bragging rights in the house have been lost, but Friday is run day again and I’m now debating tapering for the rest of the week to get her back.
