I’m stumped!
I have a qr rear hub (unbranded on a Marin 29er) and want to remove the rear axle - the drive side has an Allen fitting in the end, the other side doesn’t - I’ve removed the cassette and rotor and can’t see anything I can undo - I can’t pull the ends out either so not a push fit - if I grip the non drive side and turn the other side with an Allen key - I can get it to turn but nothing is actually undoing -
Any clues from STW mechanics out there??
any spanner flats on the non-drive side end cap?
or do you mean you can turn the NDS relative to the allen end? If so, its probably just a friction fit/o-ring sealed end cap and you'd need to pull it it off parallel to the axle. I often use adjustable channel lock pliers and some silicon backed wet/dry sheet to prevent damage. A quick tug and "pop"
pics would be useful or at least the model/year of your bike
Is it a through axle? You say QR but it sounds like it doesn't have a cam over lever?
It’s def a qr axle -
And yes, I can turn the NDS end relative to the Allen end - but nothing is undoing
No spanner flats -
Can’t fathom it - what’s the Allen fitting for if not to undo it?
I’ll keep experimenting! 😬
I've a Marin, bought second hand so unsure if the wheels are stock, but the disassembly process is as follows:
Pull off nds cap, 4mm Allen key into the holes, ds cap reverse threaded via 11mm Allen key down axle
From memory the nds cap was a bit stubborn, think it involved a rag and a vice/molgrips
