I have just ordered a Specialized Chisel Comp Xl and wondered if anyone had advice about sizing. I am 185cm and suggests I am borderline L/XL. I used to have an old specialised hard rock in 2005 and was Xl but does anyone know if geometry has changed much? Will get to test ride in a month but wanted some advice if anyone else fits between sizes.

I had previous 2019 model in large, I’m 5’10”. Spot on. Borrowed a mates medium, too small. Hope that helps?

Have a look on geometrygeeks and compare it with your current/previous bike. I'm also 185 and have had two large specialized cambers (2014 and 2016). With hindsight I should have considered XL but they worked for me at the time.

Massively. The top tube won’t be as high on today’s geo but it’ll be a longer reach to the bars. Amongst other differences.

At that height I’d say XL but what do Spesh recommend? Don’t avoid XL because of a bad experience from 2005.

The spesh size charts say Large but the reach of 450 looks short on it to me. They also say it comes down to preference as I’m borderline.

176cm here and on a large Levo SL. Fits perfectly.

Geometry has changed massively, modern bikes are generally quite a lot longer than older bikes. Descriptions like L and XL don't really mean much. I've seen S, M, and L sized bikes with ETT lengths that are pretty much the same. Your overall height isn't always a good guide either because body proportions can vary quite a bit. Personally, I much prefer a bike that is slightly too small than too large. Other people seem to prefer the opposite.

Thanks reckon the XL may be fine but I’m allowed to test ride before so that’s ok.

most companies, specialized particulalry, run stems that are always too long on their frames i find.

go size larger and shorten sten.
