Evening all. I'm taking two of my kids (11+9) to Llandegla this week and looking for options on routes. We've done Blue before without any issues. This time I'm going to be battling a knackered ankle, knackered back and knackered lungs so, while I'd like them to have a go at something better than just the blue, I'm not convinced I'm going to be able to stay the distance.

I've not done the whole of llandegla for literally a decade so I'm a bit short of knowledge about kid/me friendly options.

They enjoy the bit from the top (Rollercoaster), and True Blue (turn right off Rollercoaster).

A couple of ideas are:
1. Blue to the W220 viewpoint, then turn left on the red "From Dusk to Dawn" down to the fireroad, turn R, then R at W87, R again onto Blue at Northshore Island, then the "bottom" blue all the way back.
2. Blue to end of Rollercoaster, then red to Snowdon View, carry on the red to W580, fireroad to W220 (viewpoint on the blue) then "top" blue all the way back.

Can anyone suggest which of those two would be best for them? Or any other ideas?

Current trail map linky

Thanks!

When my kids where younger we’d follow the blue link from northshore island.

Definitely agree with the bit above. The red at this stage is hard work. Cave climb and £3 hill are a real slog if you're young/ tired.

One option is the red as far as 80 them skip to 87 on the fire Road and then blue back, but that may still be too much.

Tricky to say as we tended to tow the 3 mile climb on the fireroad at age 9 to preserve energy levels for later. Since you're crocked and towing isn’t an option I tend to think my suggestion above is too far.

I was also going to suggest going from 80-87 too.

Yeah, the more I think about it I think it's going to be best to carry on the blue, then divert on the red via "From Dusk to Dawn" which seems to be new.

Is the Northshore Island the old rough logs elevated thing through the forest?

Final question: is the very final bit of red below the reservoir worth it, over the blue/pump track. Especially for tired legs!

I don't rate that bit much. Seems more up and not much down.

Assuming we're thinking of the same thing, that old rough northshore disappeared many years ago. Long gone. It was by far the hardest bit to clean of the whole of llandegla ( admittedly not a very high bar :-))

Unless you mean this, which has also unfortunately gone too. Which was by far the most fun bit off Llandegla to ride

Can't be that bit I guess as the logs aren't rough cut.

Anyway have a great time

It might have been sorted now, but when I was there a couple of weeks ago there was a big diversion cutting out the big northshore section

Yep! I said it'd been a while 😜
Some classic slow speed tumbles off the side of that into the moss / bog.

👍😁

Ta. Will investigate.

Just as a general update on this, the idea of blue > From Dusk till Dawn (red) works very well. It's a nice step up from the blue and lets the kids know what the differences are.

The Northshore is shut, as is the final bit of green and the pump track. It was pretty much bang on 2 hours for us and was perfect length and timing.

Thanks for the advice folks!

Went to Llandegla yesterday with a view to doing the first few blacks and then skipping B-Line / Jumpy bits and heading onto the Red for the last half. Unfortunately a lot of the Red is a boring detour as the route back to the Red (joining at the northshore) is blocked.

If we had stuck with the Black through B-Line, is the route to the northshore / narrow bridge still open ?
