I'm flying back to the UK in early September from Oz for a friends wedding in the Midlands, i'm planning a 4 day trip up to Scotland with some mates as I never got up there with my bike when I lived in the UK.

There is obviously a ton of riding between Worcestershire and Edinburgh and I need some help to make a good itinerary for the 4 days. Non of us are big hitting downhillers, but are confident of technical trails and I guess preferred style would be flowy trails with fun features.

Not worried about travelling, but obviously with only 4 days, don't want to be stuck in car the whole trip. So I guess we won't get up the top end.

Would probably be heading up M6, so to start off I thought Gisburn on Travel Day to break it up, then where?

Proper Scotland riding doesnt start until you're north of Glasgow

Either make the effort to get up to the highlands, or just spend the 4 days riding in the Lakes enroute to Edinburgh.

The 7 stanes gives some fantastic riding and being able to do a brain off all weather big smiles ride if you want it. Don't knock it as not being proper.

Excluding all that rubbish stuff in the borders obviously 🙄

You could ride decent stuff for several days down there and never touch a trail centre, though the OPs description of what he's after makes me think a trail centre might be what he's after?

1. Innerleithen/Glentress with some nearby natural stuff for travel day - start early, you'll be there for lunch.
2. Early start again to get to Glencoe (2 hrs?) - Devils Staircase and Cirian (spg?). 40 mins round to Fort William.
3. Nevis Range etc then up Great Glen to Laggan in afternoon, or get to Laggan and ride up towards/round Ben Alder. Stay Kingussie.
4. Last day around Glen Feshie and through to Cairngorm. Easy run home back down the A9 (4 hours to Carlisle).
All fairly weather tolerant too.

Stay south of Edinburgh do some as suggested above maybe lakes too?

If it's trail centres then the better ones are nearby. If off piste, as stated above, you could ride tweed valley for a week without hitting the kittie litter

Thanks for all the replies, some helpful advice there.

I enjoy all aspects and would love to do some non-trail centre riding but a couple in our don't like long XC type rides, so I'm guessing sticking to trail centres would be best.

If we were to do one epic full day back country ride, where would you ride?

Be careful not to plan too much as you'll end up travelling/driving more than riding. I'd pick either the Lakes or Tweed Valley as a base.

We've just done a four day roadtrip. Tues was a big drive to Torridon. Weds was Torridon lollipop. Thurs was Ben Damph followed by a drive to Kinlochleven. Fri was supposed to be Devil's Staircase / Cirain Path but we opted to drive down to Glentress due to weather, time constraints and the fear of getting stuck in Friday teatime traffic.

A lap of the blue with a couple of repeat goes of Berm Baby Berm worked out to be the perfect end to the roadtrip after two big days in the mountains

Heard and seen a lot about the tweed valley and it looks good, but do you need a guide or is it easy to find the good stuff?
