Morning all!
My 10 year old DT Swiss XMC 130 forks have suffered a catastrophic failure and seems there is no way back for them. I'm also really struggling to find a suitable replacement due to it being an older standard so any tips? I want something that will give 2007 Kona Dawg a few more years of life at least.
Travel - 110-140
Steerer Tube - 1 1/8th straight
Axle - 15mm non boost
Brakes - Disc
I'm finding little compatible out there and nothing new. Anyone point me to something that hits the money on compatibility, age and price.
Otherwise I might have to look for a new second hand bike but would rather keep my old one going...
Second hand Pike (or any fork of your choosing really) then send it to RSF suspension for a replacement, straight, steerer tube.
Check the specification of the headset and head tube of the bike. Some bikes can fit an external tapered headset which allows you to fit more modern forks. If that's the case, a 27.5" fork would be the obvious replacement.
If your frame has a straight 44mm headtube then you could fit a tapered steerer fork with an external lower cup I believe.
If it’s straight 1 and 1/8th then it’s either secondhand forks with straight steerer, low end stuff like recons / Suntour epixon or see if as suggested above a company could swap a tapered steerer for a straight one for you.
That bike is quite dated now in terms of suspension, geometry etc. If he tempted to use this as an opportunity to pickup a secondhand frame with newer geo - something from the last few years. If you’re not already 1x you may need to go that route though.
If you can't find a new solution then you'd be best posting wanted ads on STW classifieds and Retrobike.
Edit - It's a fork, not plural. I'm not being pedantic, it helps to sound like you know what you're talking about.
I've done a Google Image search "Kona Dawg 2007" and seems unlikely that tapered forks (yes, forks ffs) will be an option.
Second hand is a good option - even then straight steerer/15mm axle are few and far between. It was a temp solution on my son's bike, but I put 9mm QR forks on with a hub adapter.
Ebay has those nice cheapo Fox looky-likey forks (Bucklos!) in multiple steerer/exle option, if you're willing to risk it 🙂
Probably sold now, but Make Model is one option you might find -

(ps. if he has still got them for sale and won't post I can pick up and post for ya)
